If I were to substitute perilite for vermiculite for use in a normal brown rice flower/ perilite/ water substrate, would all parts be the same as in a normal brf/ verm/ water substrate?

If you can't find vermiculite, coir is a good canidate as a substitute. I have tried substituting 50/50 coir/verm for the verm part in a PF cake recipe. I've also substituted 50/50+ casing for the verm part. I've had excellent results with cakes made by substituting coir/verm
for the verm part. The peat mixes (50/50+) were as slow as the regular pf cake mix. While I haven't tried using straight coir or peat moss as a substitute for verm I think they would work. More experimenting needs to be done. Maybe add like a 1/4 tsp of lime per half pint to balance the ph.
The whole reason behind using vermiculite in the cake recipe is to keep it fluffy. Coir and and peat moss have this quality
but have a little ph problem that can be fixed with lime. Perlite is too coarse to substitute for vermiculite.
