Not to take shortcuts.

I'm more proud that I made such an impressively green tub, than learning anything. I expected contamination, but not nearly to that degree.

Another 20 qt grow. Im pretty proud of myself so far. There is a ton of information on this site, check it out. We have a lot of great people in here posting quality information. I always appreciate the advice and help :heart:

I've been busy making my return to the hobby throughout 2018.
I went half of the year doing brf cakes to bulk,going through alot of varieties of cubensis that peaked my interest(lucys and redspore)or that I was told couldn't be done on brf back during my 1st go at cult.(PE varieties):facepalm:

1.) Your best work of 2018.

Took the APE with me into my first adventures in agar/grain.


2.) One lesson of success to pass on and help others.
I have found that it's always better to under-mist than it is to over-mist.
I always try to NOT mist as much as possible.
Field capacity at spawn is a big factor here.

3.) One lesson of failure to pass on and help others.
Failure is a part of this hobby.:shrug:
It helps you to learn and strive to do better.
My advice is to always have another project behind your current project.That way if there is a failure you won't be set back too far and probably not as upset that you lost your only go at it.

4.) 2019 - What's on the horizon for you? What will you be studying, working on, in cultivation?
Right now I am enjoying the grain/agar adventure and I have a few different varieties of cubensis going.(RW,KSSS(ufo),KS,)
I also have some exotics on agar as well(pans,galindoi,ps.cyan)
Gonna get them cleaned up thru winter and give them a whirl.
Can not wait till the 2019 outdoor season here as I have better plans for this box in that area.:super:

FAE FAE FAE with humidity. If my mycelium pops up too much than it is not enough fresh air, if drops down too much you are dry sir...  (2018)

3.) One lesson of failure to pass on and help others.

Do not run or try to over accelerate things... 100 kilograms of oyster mushroom ended up in "waste" because of under organization of stuff.

4.) 2019 - What's on the horizon for you? What will you be studying, working on, in cultivation? Tease us!

2019: I want to work with more edible varieties (Lions mane, enoki, black poplars, buna shimeji, SRA) I try to build up my cellar a bit more usefull, smart and powerfull (correct FAE :laugh: :laugh: ) And want to get over my bigest fear of grows ... DA Shi-take :laugh: :laugh:
I don't know why I fear them so much to start, but this year will be the year to look inside the eye of this dragon....
And of course my WL projects are going on

1.) Your best work of 2018

I started on this roller coaster at the end of June and I had no idea how consumed I would become by mycology. I had a "success" of sorts in that I got something to grow.

1st brf bulk grow AA+ & 1st brf cake GT both fruited back in the summer.


A few months in and I'd like to think I have made quite an improvement on those first grows. While I'm not pulling fantastic looking canopies (yet) I will keep observing, dialing in, reading and taking information on board to keep those improvements going.

KS grain/coir cakes, 2 x CRS 10L tubs, KS 10L tub & CRS brf 10L bulk tub.


2.) One lesson of success to pass on and help others.

Read!

Reading the threads on the shroomery has been invaluable. I read and re read teks, found out what to expect, why you do the things you do, what happens when you don't do them. I read about fungi in general, I read things that contradicted everything I'd just read. I know most cultivators on the shroomery have forgotten more about fungi than I'll ever hope to know, which makes this forum such an awesome source of knowledge.

3.) One lesson of failure to pass on and help others.

Things do go wrong! Don't get disheartened, try and work out where you went wrong and fix it next time. Failure is the best way to learn how to get things right.

4.) 2019 - What's on the horizon for you? What will you be studying, working on, in cultivation? Tease us!

I'd like to try some exotic and edible grows alongside improving my cube grows. I have some p. Semilanceata colonizing atm so fingers crossed something comes from that.

I'd like to just thank everyone (past and present) who contributes to the discussions on the shroomery. You are all truly awesome and wish everyone success in whatever projects and ventures you take on in 2019 and continue to make the shroomery such a fucking kick ass forum:fistbump:

Take your time! Do not rush through the process. Do not be 6 knuckles deep in a whiskey bottle, and expect not to find contam 3 weeks later! Go slow, and concentrate on what you're doing. Light some candles, put on some Barry Manelow, take your clothes off, and noc up some jars. Jk, but seriously take your time.

3.) One lesson of failure to pass on and help others.
Trich shows up when you cut corners, don't try and outsmart the teks, follow them and learn from them.

I would really like to do a mono, you all hold them in such high praise! I'm excited to give it a go.

110 gallon steam sterilizer with a 55 gallon boiler (25-30g full)

Don't be scared to switch grains.

Adding too much water is easy and usually fucks shit up

In regards to P.alutacea. The species grows like a weed if you keep the fruiting temperature below 20c. Performance on grain and manure are comparable provided a casing layer is applied. Light intensity seems to influence morphology. Increased intensity makes for squat specimens with a larger pileus. Ideal for prints.

3.) One lesson of failure to pass on and help others.

When I started, I grew more green than you'll see at a golf course. This hobbie requires a lot of patience and practice. When you do fail, consider it an opportunity to learn and move on.

Find the things that work for you.
Everyone growing the same way and following the tek is good for learning. It also makes it easier for everyone to troubleshoot problems in the forum.
But once you know how to grow, play around, experiment and make up your own tek.

LC is the fastest, easiest way to inoculate large amounts of spawn at once.
LC is also the fastest, easiest way to fuck up big batches of grain all at once.

I hope to purchase land by the end of next year. Once I have a dedicated space (away from the city, that I own) I'll really be able to grow some mushrooms!
