I twist and pull sometimes but then I cut the butt off.  Can do whatever you want though.  I like a nice clean shroom.  Habit from morel picking and selling.

you could make tea with the stumps. but you should really just throw them away and spend your time growing more mushies instead. :trippinbawelz:

C'mon man, your first grows are special and you wanna get the most out of it... let him enjoy it.
Once he's got a dry kilo, he'll do like everyone else and cut it fast & clean.

If your growing enough this shouldn't be much of a concern but,,,

In short if you are a waste not want type of person, yeah the stumps are viable. It would be the same principle of sausage or burger in the meat industry, trimmings.

Other than that you would have to be pretty hard up to go beyond the stump and try extracting actives out of the sub. That's pink slime territory and just ghetto desperate. Just don't. :schadenfreude:

Trim off the stalk, put on tinfoil in the deyhdrator, put em in a sifter then sift off loose coir or verm, then throw in a mason jar. If it's poo, personally I wouldn't even.
Later on make tea, strain, slam, just as potent as the rest. :vibin:

Pretty mush ya can just make tea with em or use the tea to make gummies n shit or experiment with recipes without risking loosing the more presentable parts.

Easiest quickest solution, grow enough shrooms to were ya have to ask, what do you do with your extra mushrooms that you cannot eat fast enough. :lmafo:

Not rocket science cut your fruits. A huge kick in the dick is harvesting then going back and cleaning off fruits because you did a piss poor job of harvesting. Leave stumps

Dry, save up and do a nice extraction when you have enough to make it worth the effort?

This. Plus ripping the stumps out, leaving holes in the sub has caused me contam problems before.

Leave the trash alone. You can make more, you don't need to squeeze out every last mg.

i'm a big fan of analogies, so i'll add, compare this to making a cake...

you get the batter all together, and dump into the pan, how obsessive are you about getting every last little bit of batter outta the bowl? no matter how hard to you try, you're never getting all of it. so where to draw the line?

if you got one cake to make, maybe it makes sense to spend a minute or so scraping the bowl, because hey, it's only a minute and that one extra ounce matters.

but if you're baking a thousand cakes, ain't no one got time to scrape a thousand bowls. so you make one huge bowl of batter, and pour into a thousand pans. no reason to get obsessive scraping the big bowl, since there's only one bowl's worth of wasted batter...

or something. do what makes you happy.

Uh so when do the stumps just grow over and when do they decompose? Is that a matter of myc vigor and how much the stump protrudes / how fat it is still sticking out?

I agree with jack flash but that doesn't mean there aren't ways to make some kind of routine to save up your stumps (and also spent myc when clean / cleaned) and do a simple extraction.
Like i think i said: it depends on the scale you are doing this on whether it is worth the effort - surely at some scale it pays off.

Not that everyone grows on that kind of a scale to begin with so idk

The stumps revert back to myc. Or just get fuzzy again, since it's basically thick myc to begin with.

But they never contam unless you already had a problem. If decomposing tissue was a problem we couldn't do clones.

Alright but there surely is a point where fruits past their 'expiration date' just start dying right? Just like a mushroom in nature?

The explanation for what you say about cloning could be that the tissue is programmed differently in such situations, right? When the fruit is done it stops receiving resources, but if you biopsy a piece from it then I think it is more likely to go into exploration/colonization mode again?
Especially when encouraged with actual substrate/resources.

I just don't think I've ever seen an entire fruit revert back to myc after sporulating. Maybe just a little when it's not entirely done yet.
But correct me if I'm wrong.

I read this thread right before I harvested a flush last night.  I used the butt ends that still had casing material on them to make my first mushroom tea, and it was a great way to use the material I'd previously been discarding.  I didn't have enough biomass from the butt ends to get a 5dgisd, but I definitely had a great four hours.
