I think a lot of people never really understand concepts beyond possession and consumption. When they can't have their way they react to deny others pleasure as it is their attempt to control the situation.

I am sorry if it came across as some kind of attack, though I don't see how it did but perhaps my newness doesn't incorporate the history of the forum.
The specific instance of the question was I waiting for a bus and a Chinese looking girl walked in front of one passing and got splatted up the road, of the four people there, two stood there on their phones, one said it serves the chink bitch right (and she is Viet) and I went to help. Unfortunately it kind of summed up my impression of people, hence the question.

That is fucking horrible!!! I know what you mean. I am a pretty calm and loving person. I feel it in my bones and to the core if I see someone fall or something like that. i have pulled a guy out of his car in a car wreck/in a ditch at 3am and I was on 2 hits of LSD at the time! His skull was showing through his scalp, and I got his blood on me. I also waded through a shallow creek soaking my shoes to pull him out. I was focused and not tripping that whole time though strangely, but as soon as I left WHOOOSH, the L kicked in and the adrenaline! I waited for the cops too. I'm thinking some people might think they have to be hard to "protect" themselves from anyone getting something over on them, or taking advantage of them maybe.:shrug: Ah, I see you are in New Zealand. Maybe it is different there with some way people are. I have never been there, yet. I would like to go. I'm glad you're ok from that fighting you had to do. I have no idea of the potential mental scars you may or may not have, but if you went to help that person you still have some goodness in you and you aren't an empty unfeeling shell-shocked person from the fighting you had to endure. Was it voluntary to sign up? I welcome you here! On a lighter note, I love The Conchords.:grin:

It is life. Rich and poor globally.  But even then, there are so many assholes in the world and cunts.  Found I am happiest traveling and living in liberal cities for awhile.  It kind of clears the mind of stupid shit that so many are stuck in and want one to be stuck in in ones life.

People are being exploited from all sides. All of us are literally in a piranha river and the piranhas are the others.

In a society where everyone is always peaceful, the first aggressive person to be born would be able to take everything by force. Even in more balanced societies that are held together with the rule of law, there are often personal benefits to aggression and violence. Aggression is often unethical and bad for the group, but remember that people evolve according to what helps them survive and reproduce, not necessarily what's moral.

But then you can flip the coin and ask, "Why are people moral if it pays to be immoral?" The reason is that morality can also be good for survival, especially at the large scales of groups and civilizations. That's why moral behavior is encouraged and why it's even intrinsic in many people; the urge to be moral is good for the survival of groups.

The reason people sometimes act "good"  is that being "good" can help you survive and pass your genes down in some situations.
The reason people sometimes act "bad" is that being "bad" can help you survive and pass your genes down in some other situations.

While it's true that peoples' personal reasons for being good or bad are often very different from the reasons of survival or reproduction, I think this is counterbalanced by the fact that survival and reproduction (plus natural selection) are the ultimate reason people have evolved to feel the ways they do in the first place! (In fact, I'd go so far as to say the ultimate reason we feel bad about "bad" people is that they hinder our own ability to survive and reproduce.)

self hate can appear to be outward directed, but i think it's more confusing that to accept ones self-hate, makes it one step further to actually making progress for good and Virtue.  forgive me if i have lost control of my anger :crankey:
