How is this bulk substrate looking?

It's comprised of dehydrated horse manure, exotic zoo manure, organic coconut coir, vermiculite, and gypsum. Fully colonized (from rye berries) with golden teachers. In myco bags. No casing. I think I see hyphal knots.

Can anyone chime in on general health, and whether or not you see knots? The pics are pretty high res, so zoom in to get a closer look.

I can’t tell because of the angle but the mycelium seems to have gone aerial.
Not enough fae so the mycelium tries to reach up for fresher air.

It looks all kinds of funny, but not in a gross way. I would move them into monotubs. Each to one to gove them more air. As long as they are hydrated and clean they wil pin all over.

This is my first grow, so I don't have a monotub handy nor the time (currently) to make one. I will likely start using monotubs for my next grow.

For now, I rolled the mycobags all the way down, placed them in a tub, misted the sides and lid of the tub, and placed the lid on top, slightly cracked to allow for FAE.

Hopefully that will help.

For good measure, I just ran out and bought some orchid moss, hydrated it, and lined the bottom of the tub with it, so it's surrounding the bags.

Let's see how this goes.

So, I moved one of the bags to a tub, kind of implementing some of the ideas behind an "unmodified" tech. Surrounding the tin is hydrated orchid moss.

I'm pretty sure I see hyphal knots all over this thing. Below I circled one that I think has turned into primordia, or is about to turn into primordia. Anyone care to chime in with their thoughts?

Don't see much moisture on the surface of the mycelium.  Here is one the best reads on substrate conditions I have found.

Thanks for the tip! Per the link you posted, Looks like I need to ensure small beads of water are on the surface of the substrate, and when they disappear, to give it another generous, gentle misting.

Is it just me or does this "cake" look happy as !@#$? Just zooming into these pics and looking at how these knots are forming into pins is unreal.

BTW, this is my first ever grow. I can barely contain my excitement.

I don't think so. The yellow parts are just where the grains are. Cake appears to be thriving...new knots everywhere, filling and ripening up. When I let the surface moister evaporate, the yellow goes away other than the grains themselves. Also, this substrate I'm using automatically turns water yellow--even when completely sterile.

Its bacterial AF dude... the yellow is metabolites, and the culture looks creamy... I suspect it was overhydrated at spawn... I wouldn't expect much of a second flush, if trich doesn't show after rehydration... also, judging by the matted surface and standing water on pins, you're overmisting... allow evaporation to occur between mistings to stimulate pinning and avoid over-saturating the substrate

Dude... trust me thats bacterial. Its fine. But after u harvest those fruits, it might not make it for a 2nd flush. When theres that much metabolites on the surface, theres a reason. Watch, other people will say tge same thing.

I would try wicking up the yellow liquid with a clean paper towel. But i promise u, thats not how its supposed to look and it looks like that from bacteria or some other hidden contaminant. Its supposed to be just white with no pooling water.

I don't think so. This substrate turns water yellow, even with no mycelium. Thus, I don't think it's metabolites (since it does the same thing when no metabolites exist in a sterile state).

Standing water gives u that yellow shit, just leave it till harvest it'll be fine then chuck it an restart.

Well i said congrats... its just bacteria, not the end of the world.

And we also say its bacterial cuz of how the mycelium looks and its overly wet cuz we can see how over hydrated and plump the pins are.
