If you have any sort of health insurance then, yes, you are paying for other people's poor lifestyle decisions, and they will someday pay for yours. That's how insurance works. Thousands of people put money into a communal pot, which is drawn from by those who need it, when they need it. That's how it is an affordable way to manage unforeseen healthcare expenses.

Having the government control the pool takes private company profits out of the equation, so costs can be reduced. Governments can also bargain for better prices on drugs. The benefits really are incredible.

That was my point.  I don't want to pay for the uninsured who use the emergency room.  Wooof covered this pretty well.

Fair enough. I get that. You would benefit from a universal healthcare system though, as the pot would be bigger, whilst the product would be cheaper. It's worth thinking about objectively.

And I can entertain the idea of national healthcare, but I'm not fond on how ObamaCare operated. The mandateshelped some, but not others.

It was a a shit program that I will never give in to.

Obama was a huge disappointment. When I reflect on his presidency, while I really liked the guy, I hate most of the things he did. He had a supermajority, yet didn't manage to implement a single-payer system. In my view, healthcare is something you either go all-in with, or all out.

The thing I liked about the Affordable Care Act was that is addressed the 'pre-existing conditions' issue, and it provided coverage for many people in need.
