i hate how fox news
    #3036638 - 08/22/04 05:14 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

i read this article, (sorry no link) but the guy makes a good point, fox news always tries to say the "majority of the country is conservative" that is absolutely not true. more people voted for gore than bush, that is a fact. also if you add all of nader's votes (nader is probably left of the dems) and gore's votes it is larger than the number of votes recieved by bush and other right wing candidates...which proves the majority of the country, leans left. that makes me feel better about the USA, there is hope for us yet

fox news is easily the most biased news channel around.
if you need any additional reasons to hate fox news, check out the movie 'outfoxxed: rupert murdock's war on journalism'.

i read this article, (sorry no link) but the guy makes a good point,
fox news always tries to say the "majority of the country is
conservative" that is absolutely not true.

You hate how Fox News says "the majority of the country is
conservative"? I have never heard the Fox News channel, or any of
its heads say that. If they have, please provide a link or evidence.
In fact, I have never heard any of the commentators on Fox News(who
are allowed to say whatever their opinions are...they are commentators
after all) say that either.

more people voted for gore than bush, that is a fact. also if you add
all of nader's votes (nader is probably left of the dems) and gore's
votes it is larger than the number of votes recieved by bush and
other right wing candidates...which proves the majority of the
country, leans left.

No it doesn't. Not everybody who voted for Gore was "left" and
not everybody who voted for Bush was "right"(voters don't always
blindly stick to one side or the other). And on top of that, most
of the eligible people in this country don't even vote....so
elections are not always a barometer of the overall public mood of
every citizen in America.

And, even if the 2000 presidential election did accurately
represent the ideological leanings of the American people, the
margin between the supporters of the "left" and the "right" was so
razor thin that it could be considered fairly equal. And, lastly
the number of supporters for a cause is not always indicative of
how powerful that cause is. A few vociferous and determined people
are more influential than a bunch of lazy people.

Why is it that people look at Sumner Redstone's Fox channel and interpret it to be an example of his conservatism, then watch John Liberal Stewart on comedy Central and not tie that back to Redstone. For those that don't know, Comedy Central is a Viacom station, and Redstone owns Viacom.

Rupert Murdoch owns fox bucko he is a consevative and Roger Ailes runs Fox news...Ailes was a former Rush Limbaugh producer and a known republican douche-bag...yes stewart seems a little left wing, but its comedy, they call it "fake news" fox tries to make itself look like real news...also right after the daily show is colin quinn's show and collin is a total republican douche bag.

The majority of the country identifies itself as democrat, but enough of these 'democrats' are too apathetic and uninformed to vote so the country splits nearly evenly between right and left.

BUT, on the issue of gay marriage 60% are against it, and over half the country is pro-life. Doesn't necessarily mean they are all Republicans, but on certain issues the majority is more conservative.

I used to criticize Fox News, but now that I actually watch it it seems that much of the time it is actually less biased than other networks. However, because their pundit and editorial programs are solidly right-leaning everyone assumes the normal news coverage is biased.

find me one statistic that suggests more than half of the country wants abortion illegal...that is just not true!! the gay marriage thing i believe is becuase people actually believe the fox news type spin that gay marriage will somehow ruin family values...gay marriage will be legal, its just a matter of time...interracial marriage was once illegal

Again you state that "Fox News" says this and that. The Fox News
organization has never said that to my knowledge. In fact, I
remember watching a Hannity and Colmes where they had James Dobson
(the head of a conservative Christian organization) on. Colmes
absolutely slammed Dobson by asking him questions like, "How does
the marriage of gay people affect the lives of straight people..
give me examples") and stuff like that.

I finally got to watch the Fox News channel on my friends satellite. It shouldn't be called a "news" channel. More like an advertisement...

just watched outfoxxed tonight--some of that shit was hilarious (though there was a bit of 'pot calling the kettle black' during it, but still worth the watch ).

the main problem i see with fox news is how much it blurs the line between what they call "news reporter" and "news commentator".  I mean after all, their news commentators report the news plus they hold the prime time spots so who cares if they're technically called 'commentators'.  the point is that its blatant bias.

the other good point outfoxxed brought up was after that study that suggested fox viewers were the worst-informed audience about iraq, and that guy said something like "if after watching your newsreporting your audience is less likely to be informed and more likely to accept the current government's positions, you can't have failed more from a school-of-journalism point of view".

everyone talks about this 'liberal media bias' just because they see them attacking bush, but the philosophy of journalism is that the media's job in the political process is to be the gadfly, serving as a 4th branch of and check on the government.

No.. the liberal bias in the media isn't about attacks against conservatives. It's about a LACK of attacks against liberals.

If you're a democrat in power and there's a scandal, you can expect maybe, at the outmost, 3 days of news. Unless you killed someone, and even then maybe only a week. Clinton? Nope -- most of the news was brought about by how atrocious it was, what the republicans were doing to him.

That's your bias. They'll lambast a conservative's scandal, and sweep a liberal's scandal under the rug.

"I hate how Fox news..." commands such a large audience, comprised in large part of people who lack the wherewithal to simply turn off the television and do something more constructive or educational with their time.

From the little I know of the field of journalism, unbiased reporting pretty much ends with the high school newsletter. After that, as with most other jobs, the name of the game is keeping the boss happy. And when it comes to mainstream media, and especially when it comes to politics, the boss almost always leans one way or the other. So, every journalist who wants to keep their job holds the bias of whatever political group is buddy-buddy with their boss.

The only choice for a free-thinking individual (FTI) is to arm him or herself with as much information from as many varied sources as possible. That includes watching Fox, but only for comic relief.

Watching hockey is pretty much the only thing a television can properly be used for these days, I'm afraid.

Come on.  Everyone took that whole thing as a joke, except how mean it was to pry into Clinton's private life.

All news lies.  You just don't like Fox news because apparently, you're a Communist.

i am not from the united states but we get fox news here on cable in Australia and we all laugh at it. It seems to be that its fox's mission to polarise the united states to a greater extent. Fox news has a habit of labelling everyone.. it creates a very us and them climate.. If your not conservitive you are considered "liberal" or "socialist". Now anyone with half a brain realises that "liberalism" and "socialism" are very very different. But fox seems to play to people who think they are the same.. I dont understand why fox is the most popular cable network in the states. Fox seems to create more fear and misunderstanding about the outside world, making it seem very very foreign and dangerous. Most Americans seem to take this in. I think its very sad how the views of a few talking heads can polarise a country.. however i think - correct me if im wrong - that to label people is very interwoven into American culture.. look at american high schools for example.. there are camps or social groups that people must be a part of. jocks, goths, punks, etc etc.. there is this constant need to label.. nobody can call themselves themselves.. and if they dont conform to this labelling system they are labelled loners.. thats why the majority of people calling themselves "conservitives" in the states dont associate with any "liberals" there is a deep devide.. just like in the high school lunch room.. This phemomina is not present in other western countries..

Maybe things are different down under, but here in the states liberals are very close to socialists.

the liberal party here is actually the conservitive party believe it or not.. our liberal party is on par with your republican party.. if you look for the real meaning of the words you'll find that the american meanings are distortions. liberalism is largely associated with financial freedom.. whereas socialism encompasses a wider subject matter.

i made a mistake in my previous post.. i was meant to say.. many people think of red russia when they think of socialism.. there is a difference. fox news tends to put everything thats not conservitive under the same "evil" umbrellla
