Just wanting to know if everything is going well
    #25594760 -

I'm worried about if I should be troubleshooting this. The cake was birthed on the 26th, The pins started to grow on the 1st. However, it's already the 5th and the pins look kinda the same, they look their growth got stuck and I don't know how to fix it. I waited a week after the jar fully colonised, then dunked the cake for 1 day.

I fan like 5 or 6 times a day and mist kinda like the same amount of times. I mist the walls mostly but if the cake looks dry I mist it, I try to fan off the water droplets but some sit on the cake. The temp is around 60F. Humidity around 85 or 90 my gauge is cheap and likely to not be accurate. Today the biggest pin started to bruise blue around the cap. Are they looking ok? Any ideas of what's going on or how should I address this? I'm worried the tube is not holding enough humidity. I appreciate anyone's input, thank you.

I think your temps are a little low, and could possibly be causing stalled growth. Try upping it to 70-75ish if you can and report back. I don't think the humidity or FAE is the issue here.

Pins abort if there is standing water on top of them. Your cakes look too wet. Stop fanning that doesn't do anything, it's old info. No need to mist the walls of the SGFC, mist the perlite instead since it tends to dry out on the surface. Gl

Thank you for the info. So any ideas how to raise the temperature? I really don't have a clue how to raise it to 70 or 75.

I'm trying not to wet the cakes but I always end up misting them. So is definitely a rule of thumb to never mist the cakes right? I'll be misting only the perlite. Is very difficult to keep the humidity up in there, specially when there's only one cake there. I'll have two cakes ready next week, this one was kinda like the experiment to prevent fucking those up.

Yes you do, just try to think about how people usually warm up a house or an apartment
It's not rocket science, you plug in whatever kind of heater you will use and turn it on.

Cakes need to be sprayed when they need it, and they don't need it when when they don't need it. It's up to you to decide if cakes need to be sprayed or not.

Maybe try other ways of fruiting cakes if SGFC is too complicated?

You can't just up the thermostat a little?? Do you live in a cold area?

I know. The thing is is that this cake is my gf's. She's living in very restricted conditions unfortunately, so I don't think she could raise the thermostat or put a heater on in her room. Is cold where she is right now and it sucks because she got some cakes going in the summer which would've make the conditions much easier to work with. :/

That's how they're looking today. I think that left pin aborted. The cap is noticeably darker than the other ones. There's more pinning but I'm not sure they'll make it.

I'm thinking that maybe she can use a ceramic heat emitter or a heat mat. Some pins are growing mycelium on them, could an air pump help a little bit?

I used to use aquarium heaters in my incubation chambers and fruiting chambers, I think they were 10w pre set to 77°f. I had them in 1gal orange juice/ milk bottles filled with water. It kept the totes I had them in at about 75°f. Just a thought, I think they cost 10$ maybe 15$ Depending where you get them.

Yeah I was thinking that aquarium heater idea but I didn't know if it's better than using a heat mat or ceramic heat emitter. I'll tell her to try the aquarium heater idea. Let's see how it goes.

FC that needs electricity to run is

Aquarium heaters and heat mats belong faaar away from mushroom grows. You're over complicating stuff and adding things that don't need to be there to grow mushrooms

it's just cold and there's no way to increase the temp. Any simple idea then?

If she can't use a space heater, can she use a heating pad? It really shouldn't be done, but this sounds like a special case. Back when I first started, I followed some out-dated teks and put a heating pad under my SGFC on low. It helped keep the temp at the right range during winter. Now I just make sure the room that the fruiting chamber is in stays around 68 - 70F

Also, definitely try not to mist your cakes. It does cause aborts.

If misting caused aborts then mushrooms wouldn't survive rain in the wild

Standing water on top of pins for days in a row will cause aborts. Misting and letting evaporate is the process that allows healthy pin formation

Yeah the heating pad seems to be the last resort. The space heater would consume more electricity.

So what about those pins? Are they officially aborted or can they still make it?

Thank you everyone for your inputs I appreciate it.
