Yeah it's about a 3-1 ratio for me...

I am pretty stoked, after hunting for about 2 years this week I finally found 2 diffrent Cyan patches both just getting started so I am fine walking into a homeless encampment or two.

Sorry wasn't clear, I meant downtown here not downtown Bellevue. Near the infamous downtown eastside. Even before the angry dude I was hoping I'd find like one individual and be able to clone/spore print it so I wouldn't have to go back. Hopefully hail satan is the worst I'll get from now on.

damn guess i better be more careful, ive found plenty of needles so im always on the lookout for that but never any encampments... a dead body would be absolutely terrible to find, never even thought about that but hunting does have you going off into strange places you wouldnt normally sometimes lol

Anyone had luck drying Cyans in a food dehydrator? I have them on low on the top shelf but the last batch i did ending up really really dry. Does that lower the potency?

Nah your fine the faster and dryer the better. unless you intended to eat them fresh i dont think you should really worry about potency loss. i never noticed any thing significant.

food dehydrator is probably the best way imo

I believe the chemical reaction that degrades the desired chemicals (reducing potency) occurs more when water and air are present. Drier the better, I think I remember reading about people vacuum sealing and freezing them too but that's overkill. Just get em cracker dry.

Also token dumb question of the day but when searching do you walk past likely habitats looking for mushrooms growing or like really obviously crawl around bushes in public places like you've lost your wedding ring/cell phone/last dollar?

Depends on how heavily trafficked the area is. For me if there is no major street near by and not TOO many people around I go tramping through like an insane person. Sometimes on my hand and knees or with a stick to brush away branches or leaves.

i walk past habitat and look for damp spots / indicating species.

then i will look more closely, i will go real slow and look in bushes and what not. i just have my phone out and taking pictures of stuff. then i will collect when its all clear, usually its not really a problem and ill collect in front of people as they walk by. rarely get any comments from regular people to be honest....

but other hunters thats another story lol, seems like every time im hunting i always have other hunters make a comment to me lol its like other hunters can spot other hunters. so other then having another hunter watch me i never really run into problems looking obvious or anything if thats what you were asking about.

but to scan every park 100% detailed will take too much time. try to target the areas more likely, damp spots/ greenery growth / indicating species. much more time efficient when your trying to hit as many different spots as possible in a day! just my opinion tho

I don't mind climbing around and being obvious - *but* I look at everything and 99.999% of the time what I'm looking at is neither active nor a rare choice edible, so nothing that I should care if other people see or not.

Rather often I will have some random yokel walk up while I am taking photographs - which is really obvious because I use real camera, a tripod and cable release and use long exposures- and loudly exclaim ARE THOSE MAGIC MUSHROOMS! to which I always say... no... ARE YOU SURE- WHAT ARE THEY THEN?... ummmm, I don't know, I'm going to have to go home and look them up.. Then I get this dirty look, like I'm holding out information on them, because they assume that I must by lying - not really understanding that I do know the characteristics of different mushrooms and I can be pretty darn sure that they are not actives, even if I don't know exactly what they are..

--------------------
Disclaimer - I'm just a hobbyist and cannot absolutely guarantee any ID offered. I'm most familiar with the species found in the Pacific Northwest - those found in other parts of the world may vary considerably, so always do your own research to find out what grows in your area and what lookalikes you need to be aware of. Understand that many mushroom species cannot be 100% reliably identified by photographs alone, even by an expert, so it may not be possible to go beyond suggesting a probable genus.

Dehydrator, cracker dry, immediately into mason jars, sealed.

Yes I am! Technically the closest neighboring municipality that isn't over a bridge.

Good to know I'm somewhat on the right track and I can spend a little more time closely scanning the bushes. I guess that's pretty normal in parks but not so much a thing to do in the landscaping of a business. I assume everything should start pinning after tonight/tomorrow's rain, I'm going to use that google maps trick to see if I can find some more spots to check.

Yep, get them as dry as they can get. Water is the enemy, not heat. They should crumble when you apply pressure. Then into a sealed mason jar. I add a desiccant packet too.

I was wondering how much luck people have in PNW (west of cascades) finding Baeos? I have spent about a year studying Cyans and have had alot of luck this year finding them so far and want to expand to a second species and was thinking Baeos would be great, but when looking though the treads here it seems like not even close to as many people asking for IDs and posting pics of them.

What experience do others here have with them? Are they all over like the Cyans or harder to find?

Harder to find.  Much harder.

It is celebrated when they are found, often there is a dance.

I was so excited for like 5 seconds when I found these. Buttt no blue, they're probably gallerinas (actually tubaria furfuracea)

I swear this is the right habitat but still nothing

Hi all. First time poster here. I’ve been searching for many hours this week in Seattle and have found lots of spots with indicator species and ideal conditions. It seems I’ve been too late to the spots because they have many yards of exposed mycelium . Is this usually because other hunters have gotten to the spot first or does this happen naturally?

@muhfreedumb have you been finding waterlogged patches? After finding that massive patch the other day completely waterlogged and ruined, im all paranoid about my other spots since its been raining non-stop since.

Unless those were just old and didnt have too much to do with water logging.

I'm pretty sure mine were gallerinas (actually maybe tubaria furfuracea) and they were outside of the cover of a tree, that's why they look funny and are kinda shredded.

Still haven't found a cyan patch, but a lot of the other mushrooms that aren't really old seem okay.  Maybe that patch will pin again after all this rain and the upcoming few sunny days.
