interesting contams on agar. ID please?
    #25529188 -

howdy folks, I hope you're all well?

so this is a Blue Meanie cube myc, taken from a clone...

first off is a quick growing grey sheet of myc, which I think is cobweb perhaps?

closer up

the 2nd one is creamy and properly 3d.

I've no clue on this.. perhaps if I'd let it sporulate it'd be more obvious?
the fucker's gone out though

many thanks for any input :cookiemonster::highfive::awedance:

Are you wanting to cultivate it? Doesn't appear to be cubensis, transfer away from it, keep the plate for observation lol... one looks like mold, and even if the second is jumbled mutated mycelium, I'd not use it for obvious genetic variables... not real important to put a name on is it? Lol... I'd take a wedge from around 5-5:30... where the leading edge is cleanest... IMO, that's your only shot

Anything will grow on agar... there are spores everywhere brobro... in fact, many are good for the baby's immune system... can't build one without exposure... better it a white mold, or trich, than black mold... but even then, there are spores everywhere!  Germination after ingestion while breathing are slim to none, but still represents a foreign pathogen that will stimulate immune response, and become recognizable... can't bubble wrap them unfortunately, often conditions them to be immunually weak, prone to allergies, and susceptible when something more serious than a cold comes along... i dont give my kids (or self) the flu shot, and only use antibacterial soap or sanitizer with myco or other instances where it's necessary... I can't remember any of us having it... it's there for a reason, and much like a muscle... use it or lose it

yeah totally with you there.
and don't worry, the little tyke won't be bubble wrapped, he's a mucky pup, haha

just wondered what the contam was so I cold fight it as I've been losing 3/4 of my mono's to something...

It's in your spawn,  hence procedure: walk me through grain prep, inoculation... MS plates straight to grain?

yeah I was wondering why my spawn was so weak (usually take a month to colonise a quart jar)

so 50% of the time I clone to agar, take a couple of transfers, then pop the agar into my grains in my SAB.
I have a shitty UK PC which goes to 12 psi, so I cook for 3 hours. Organic wheat grain looks good but might be a little dry.

the other 50% of the time I g2g

none of the grain looks contaminated... it's just slow.

Work on sterile technique, elevate your work plates in the SAB (I use empty wide mouth 1/2 pint jars placed directly on the surface of the table, and flip SAB tub over everything) load and setup , wait 10 minutes before starting your work... slow and steady movement, not placing any more of your instruments or self over receiving media than needed to make shit happen...

Hi Keeno, i am also in the UK with a PC that goes to 12psi, these are tested to go a lot higher than 15psi
Weigh your weight and divide by 12 this is the weight per gram/oz for each 1Lb psi, times this by 3 and add it to your weight and you will now have a 15psi PC:grin:

My weight is 72g so 18g is needed to make it 15psi, a 10p piece weighs 6g so i have 3 taped on top of mine. Hope this helps mate and save you an hour every time you PC.

ah nice one for the heads up on this.
I've got a 2p on the top and one of the emergency valves keeps venting, so I'll have to work out how to increase the resistance to these valves opening...
I totally wish I'd got one of the Presto PC's that target were doing for £100 delivered when I had the chance. :nosiridontlikeit:

This is the one i am using, holds 7 1Liter jars and around the £30 mark depending where you get it from.

yes to this or i am using damp cleaning cloths with cake cooling racks on top, the damp cloths trap contams and the cooling racks are a bit easier for me to use than other things i have tried to work off.
