Really depends on your perspective on what God is. As I see it (especially in Sodom and Gomorrah) it has more to do with suffering by rejecting the natural order than the "supreme being" smiting dissidents over some abstract ideal.

Natural order is defined by no one. To go against the natural order is to try to apply Will by force. It will always lead to suffering but that doesn't necessarily mean an overall negative outcome. Some suffering can be very worthwhile for a desired change but I digress. Honestly, we shouldn't need to have to debate the destructiveness of hedonism. It should already be beyond self evident.
