Agar bottle

I have hard time to find good agar bottle that can fit in my small PC.. found those 2 bottles.. each 300ml, but i dont have any cap or lid for those two... can i just fill hole with polly or tape micropore tape over hole and cover it with alu foil for PC?

Those will likely work fine, unless they break.  But I've never had any glass break on me before.

I wouldn't stuff anything in the holes.  Just cover with tin foil so that it reaches down a few inches.  When you move the hot bottle to the SAB just move slow so as to not force air currents up under the foil.

Personally I just use a regular mouth quart jar with a basic polyfil wad in the lid and 500ml of agar.

Hopefully you aren't pouring agar in a SAB though, that's pretty hit and miss. Can't really have still air when the box has hot agar in it making air currents you know? Better to do no pour plates in a SAB in my opinion, for reliability sake.

i tested them today with water inside, they didn't break :smile:

so no filter needed.. cool

well.. i'll try do it inside my SAB, never saw someone point this issue before, this is my first agar work, I'll mix yeast,potato starch,agar,dextrose then add  distilled water at room temp,  work and sterilize like RR did in his agar video

I pour all my plates in my SAB, proper technique is your best defense against contamination.

@op glass pint bottles from the liquor store work great as well.

I have 6.5 inch tall PC, got tons of perfect bottles for agar, but they can't fit :frown:
So, should i put just tin foil over hole, any suggestion?
If i put enough water to get at half height of bottle, should that be fine to avoid boil-over?

Problem!

Just picked up my petris from post office.. there is no sleeve.. they said, pre-sterilized but they were just packed inside 2 plastic wraps.. se there is no way they are sterile... can i somehow sterilize dishes or just wipe good with alcohol before pouring? Also, how to keep those petris waiting for transfer now... each one in ziplock? Wraped? Not wraped?

If those are plastic they're probably not good if they weren't in a sealed sleeve. Most if not all vendors sterilize their dishes via gamma radiation, they will not hold up in a PC. Wiping with alcohol will not help you.

I don't do no-pour plates but tightly stuffed polyfil should be fine instead of micropore tape.

Also one stupid question.. i saw now in no-pouring tek, he cook his agar, do i have to cook it? i found recipe on frank journal: 500ml water, 10g agar, 10g potato starch, 1g nutritional yeast.. do i need to cook that before putting in jars and after that sterilize? I watched RR video, he just mix nutritional agar with distilled water at room temp and put it in PC.. i'm a bit confused.. :smile:

Yea, otherwise you run the risk of non disloved agar/nutes when doing no pour.

I put mine in the microwave first, make sure it's all dissolved pour in to tubs and pc 30 mins

Do yourself a favor and read this tek to the letter It's so helpful and saves a lot of time. I think the bottle form is perfect. Only the fact that they have no lid has it's downsides because you can not save any leftover agar and warm it up in the microwave when you need it again. Thats really a time saver. Buy some sauce bottles with caps maybe

I wouldn't use polyfill. There's not a lot of space on the inside if the plate for poly sticking out and they won't stack well in a PC with it sticking out on top.
