Just too hard - mojo for life fucked off
    #25505039 -

Does anyone else get that feeling like it's all just too fucking hard? Things hurt, we hurt people inadvertently. The worlds just so...hurty. I'm not talking about suicide because it's too hard, not sure how to explain, but like it's just too fucking hard?

It's been a bad few years for my fams, illness death abuse type bad. I've lost my mojo for life, making plans etc. How do you get it back?

Yup, absolutely. For the better part of a few years now I've been experiencing what Jack London referred to as 'the long sickness':

Jack London said:
Mine was no uncommon experience. I had read too much positive science and lived too much positive life. In the eagerness of youth I had made the ancient mistake of pursuing Truth too relentlessly. I had torn her veils from her, and the sight was too terrible for me to stand. In brief, I lost my fine faiths in pretty well everything except humanity, and the humanity I retained faith in was a very stark humanity indeed. This long sickness of pessimism is too well known to most of us to be detailed here. Let it suffice to state that I had it very bad. I meditated suicide coolly, as a Greek philosopher might. My regret was that there were too many dependent directly upon me for food and shelter for me to quit living.

It sounds like you might be suffering with the same. Neitzsche has some interesting words on it:

Nietzsche said:
To those human beings who are of any concern to me I wish suffering, desolation, sickness, ill-treatment, indignities - I wish that they should not remain unfamiliar with profound self-contempt, the torture of self-mistrust, the wretchedness of the vanquished: I have no pity for them, because I wish them the only thing that can prove today whether one is worth anything or not - that one endures.

And Kierhegaard took it a step further:

Kierhegaard  said:
He who is educated by dread [anxiety] is educated by possibility.. When such a person, therefore, goes out from the school of possibility, and knows more thoroughly than a child knows the alphabet that he demands of life absolutely nothing, and that terror, perdition, annihilation dwell next door to every man, and has learned the profitable lesson that every dread which alarms may the next instant become a fact, he will interpret reality differently..

I think the long and short of it is, there is no force in life other than the one you're feeling that can catalyse us into the extremes of personal growth, as long as we remain mindful to steer our ship in that direction and not try to lose ourselves to escape it.

Face to the wind (pain), unflinching and brave, it really can make you the best you can be, as much as it fucking hurts.

My heart goes out to you.

--------------------
Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not.

JSB - thank you. The closest I could liken it to was the dark night of the soul but it's not that at all. It is comfort to know that it's not a solitary experience, others do and have felt the same.

Yeah it's fucking hard. Hadn't thought of it as the only force that can promote that level of growth tho... Will have to think on that.

What makes you feel so sure?

IME, that dark night takes on many shapes and forms.

Because I still have faith in the potential of humanity, the beauty of the universe, a supreme power (likely not benevolent or intervening, but universe creating and awe inspiring), and the...I hesitate with the word worship... acknowledgement of that power and Gaia is still helpful and fulfilling.

It's like my heart hurts more than my soul, tho the distinctions probably somewhat arbitrary

You have had your own dark night JSB?

Hang in there man.

I believe that when things are hardest, we can be learning the most valuable lessons.  I personally think we are being taught at these times.  That doesnt always cure the pain, but it can stifle it for some.  Just keep pushing, and being patient.... and be looking for signs out there.

Sometimes maybe we are paying a kind of karmic debt.  When released from this debt, your eyes see anew.  Try to notice the clues that point you toward your purpose.

I too am in a strange place in life, and full of the feeling of missing someone very special to me and my kids.  My own pain aside, im feeling theirs, and trying to help them through it.... All while confused at the choices made by another that i have no control over, yet they affect me deeply.  Love is powerful, and it draws the harshest attacks.  Be vigilant friend.  You are not alone.

Here's a part of a song I just heard:

****

Stand...
look not upon the growing storm
face...
with honor thy fate...

****

Band: Blencathra
Album: These Bones Became The Roots of the Forest....
Song: As the Shadows Rise

****

Don't know if you're into Metal or not.... This kind of metal has lots of galloping riffs, acoustics, nature sounds, and some nice screaming guitar and vocals..... Atmospheric and heavy.  If you're not into heavy stuff i totally understand, many people just don't like it.  I feel a lot of power and emotion behind it, which is what draws me....

Above all.... Be strong.

Think you'll come out? I was reading about Mother Teresa's dark night... Lasted most of her life apparently. That's commitment to a belief system.

Agreed, it really bloody does. I feel for you. Hard when you're trying to hold their pain and yours. Hugs man.

I think I will. I'm pretty resilient. Sometimes I can see glimpses of the crack of dawn coming, although perhaps I'm just fooling myself.

I suspect that, whilst the long dark night is forced upon us, only our personal growth can see us out of it, and I've always been pretty good at all that business.

Thanks ACuriousMycologist.  Hoping for best for ya man.

JSB, and for you as well.

I think back to when I was 10 or so.... I am still that person, but a little rougher around the edges.  I realize that the inherent optimism I once had so naturally is still a part of my fabric.... that is another thing helps me to think about.

At the risk of sounding flippant, is it possible we take life waaay too seriously?

We fantasize about how life should be or shouldn't be, and then lament how it hard it is. Can
we decide life isn't "hard" and let that shit go? Can we end our addiction to discontent?

Miserable people are totally self-absorbed. I think that's a clue.

I suspect if we could make life to our perfect liking, we might not be happier.
