For most people, getting rid of depression is a long-term and work-heavy process of cultivating a better mind-state, instead of fixing some imbalance. Psychedelics can definitely help in that realm, but the chances that smoking it alone will cause lasting change is pretty slim. If you can figure out how to integrate them into a bigger long-term plan, you could certainly have some progress.

I'd suggest oral DMT over smoked for your purposes though. Start very small, work up if need be. The smoked DMT experience is the craziest thing possible, and has given me a variety of short-term results, but it's almost too intense in most cases to bring back anything concrete to help long-term. It's definitely a great mind reset though.
