First shiitake first harvest, now what?

Here is my first shiitake block:


I went LC->agar->rye->alder woodchips/beech sawdust/oat bran->SGFC.

So according to Stamets, i should now leave the block dormant for 7-10 days
before cold shocking and soaking for 24-48h. Is this standard practice?
Can i skip the dormant stage and go straight to shock/soak or is it recommended?

even if you cold shocked it now it probably wouldn't fruit right away. Just let it sit for a bit.

Thanks, yeah I had em by a window and turned em periodically. :tongue2:

I haven't grown shiitake I was speaking from experience fruiting oysters. I saw a myersmushrooms video back in the day where he had the spent blocks dormant on a shelf. I think if you just kept it in fruiting conditions and rehydrated it it would eventually fruit again. I have no doubt it would be dormant for a bit before.

That's sweet! I will try that one when i get a hold of a culture.
Alright i guess that's standard practice then.
I didnt read RR saying anything about dormant though, but he mentioning
cold shock, which stamets dont. And after seeing this pic of RR's shiitakes
i wanna do as he says :P
