Only got 1 though.
I'm definitely going to do a liquid culture on this one. Here are a few photos. Let me know what you think.

It's a little deformed. I think the cap is stuck in the jar a bit.
Is this puppy ready to eat?

Thank You.
This is my first try with Shiitake. I'm very pleased with the size of this beast.
Gotta start some LC jars tonight on the PC.
I'm pretty sure I need to harvest this thing tomorrow morning if not tonight.

It looks delicious.
Good job!
I just got a shiitake log, a sort of early Christmas present from the folks. I can't wait until it arrives.
Shiitake are so tastey

Looks great. That's a huge fruit for such a small substrate. Excellent BE for sure. What was your substrate? Procedure?
One of my favorite ways to eat large shiitake is to rub the gills with blue cheese salad dressing. Add a bit of water if necessary to make it soupy. Rub the cap with olive oil and cook on the bbq grill for five to ten minutes until the dressing/water in the gills begins to boil. At that time flip it over for a few seconds to drain, and then serve. Cut the stem off before cooking. You only want the cap. RR

Here is the Shiitake Substrate Recipe I used.
I never put them through any type of cold spell. Just left them in the jars and kept the humidity pretty constant.
The jars were put into the FC 11/5/07 and took a good while to start popping up.
Nearly Threes Weeks.
But now they are pretty much ready to harvest.
I had just a few questions if any one has a moment.
- Are these ready to harvest?
- Will Honey or Karo be sufficient as a LC substrate?
- What country or countries does Shiitake grow wild?

Yumm Yumm. Sounds delectable. I'll be giving this a try for sure.
Here's a little time line
Inoculated 9-10-2007. Shiitake LC.
 FC 11/5/2007
 FC 11/5/2007
 Harvest 11/27/2007

Not exactly a speedy growth. But not bad for my first try.
