    #2525909 - 04/04/04 11:21 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

just how often do you guys find actives when you're mushroom hunting? i hardly ever see mushrooms when im in the woods..it seems that it would take forever to find enough mushrooms to be worth the time.

There are several factors to consider when shroom hunting:

1. Identification: if you are just grabbing everything you see and are not really sure on the types you are picking then you are going to waste a lot of time on non-active species. Make sure you are well acquainted with the active species that you aim to pick. Try to find someone who can show you species out in the field so you get an idea of what they look like and,

2. Location: you need to know where they grow, i.e. what habitats the different types you are looking for are most suited to, so you know exactly where to hunt.

3. Season: Become aware of what species grow in what seasons. When mushrooms grow is controlled by the weather: you need to take into account recent rainfall, temperature, humidity etc.

The only way you can learn this is from experience, either your own or shared from others: local knowledge is extremely helpfull.

When I go out picking I make it worthwhile: I have been out 3 times so far this season so far and picked almost 5000 shrooms :smile:

Hahaha funny.

No, they were all Ps. Semilanceata. Don't worry, I know my shrooms.

I did pick some non-active mushrooms. Nice white button field mushrooms. Tasted great fried with a bit of butter and some herbs :tongue:

if you live in the right climate and know where to look, one can find plentyyyyy of active shrooms to make it worth the while. :wink:  :mushroom2:

my first guess about you toad is that you think shrooms only grow out in "nature" out in the woods.  this is a common newbie assumption (it was certainly mine, before i did some research).  this is not where you will find active shrooms for the most part, if finding actives is your intention.

read the FAQs, find out what grows by you and what substrate they grow in.  good luck :thumbup: :sun:

The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to selfishness;
From selfishness to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage.

Hey haunted - where about in NZ are you? I have heard of Libertys being here - but no-one ever looks for them. Did you find them in cow pasture?
I'm down in Christchurch, and I'm trying to work out whether they would be around and worth looking for.

Also have you ever found any Pans?
