Pan cyan help
    #25215359 -

Hello this is my first post. I am using a homemade Martha tent and oven trays rn. They have been in the fruiting chamber for 12 days now..so hers the Tek I followed.
10 cups of WBS soaked in 3 cups of spent coffee/2 tablespoon of gypsum.
Placed in pint jars and sterilize at 15 psi for 90 minutes.
Once completely colonized from liquid culture I spawn them into tinfoil trays from Walmart.
(Substrate)
10 parts HP
5parts coir
5 parts verm
1 part gypsum
Pasteurized in quart jars for 2 hours.
Covered them with foil poking 5 small holes in foil and let colinize till 100%. I then cased them with 50/50 verm/peatmoss and garden lime. Let recover for 24hrs then placed into fruiting chamber now 12 days later still nothing?? Any advice or help is much appreciated! Thanks!!!

Solid first post, welcome

The garden lime in the casing is the only thing that doesn't sound familiar from tried and true techniques.

Doesn't mean it's your issue.

Pan cyans are notorious for aborting when misted so it's advised to keep the casing layer as moist as possible until pinning and them back off.

Subs look a little dry in pics with that in mind.

That one is overlaying a bit but not bad at all, I say keep your casing more moist and wait it out, recase if needed, but looks healthy, not contracting away from sides, not overlaying really, things are looking good. May just be slow genetics

What's RH of your martha what's your humidification situation

Ionic reptile humidifier. Stays at 99% but have backed off to 90-95% read that I may need more evaporation?

Yes you want both. Lots of evaporation to trigger pinning but constantly refreshing the casing moisture to maintain a microclimate on the surface. That's what casings do is hold moisture on the surface to induce pinning.

I think you're on the right path by inducing a little humidity swing that's what I plan to do I'm not far behind you with my pans, I would just add  a manual misting in your routine.

I'm a little wary that the lime may have changed the pH but the pics look fine

Also the garden lime was supposed to be to raise the pH in my casing layer to around 8. Have been taking info from alot of different places and everybody seems to have their own ideas for what is right. Bought a book to read, suggestions on reading material?

You're reading it now.

Getting good at narrowing down the search feature and go from there.

Through the search box hopping you'll see tons of off site articles and info from hooks plus a lot that actually isn't in books.

You seem to have a handle on quite a bit already, the TCs and some of the members have excellent pictorials in their signatures to SAB technique or agar or any technique you may want to read up on and if it's a certain species or generic mushroom life cycle question or any keyword really click search our forums at the very top right and narrow searches down to just one forum and recent few years

Yeah I doubt the lime is an issue but I know it's an unnecessary risk. 50/50+ is the preferred casing for pans, though you are obviously welcome to experiment and share findings.

If u don't know what it is let it be your first narrowed search for practice

Agreed with humble, the search bar is your friend. If I have a problem I literally just type in "agar to grain" or "slow colonization from syringe", tons of people have had the same questions and had them answered.

It’s no where near bad enough to worry about. And no I wouldn’t flip them personally.

The casing looks very dry from my couch. They need misting IMO. Like said above, with copes/pans keep the casing moist until you see the first pins, then back off and stop misting all together until you harvest the flush. Then you can once again bring the casing back to proper moisture levels until the first pin shows up.

Pay less attention to the hygrometer and more attention to the surface area and fruit’s conditions is always my advice. When I dialed my Martha in, I never used one and only paid attention those 2 things.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Ok, so finally some fruits for my labor!! Still working out the kinks though. For some reason I am only getting side pinns from most of them. The only one that has anything in the center is the small tray I raked around the casing on. Also note I dunked all the trays 6 days ago because a few of y'all said they looked dry and I figured it couldn't hurt. I also bought a space heater to keep my room at 80°F because I noticed my temp was dropping to 71-72 at night. Any tips greatly appreciated!!

I said that today...I got the LC syringe from a guy in Instagram. Shoulda stuck to spooreworks.com should I scrape all that casing off then or leave it? Why only side pinns?

Youre getting sidepins because conditions are best there. I'm guessing it's dry in there. Mist your trays gently and let the moisture evaporate between mistings to promote pinning on the surface.
