is your friend certain that the terrarium is sealed airtight? if he took a saw to a styrofoam cooler or something, i would double check the seals. if those check out, he should probably add a bit more water. not too much, mind you, because once you put it in it's rather annoying to take it out again. good luck to your friend

he may have too many cakes in his terrarium. sometimes a decrease in humidity is caused by the lack of enough of the perlite's exposed surface area.

One other thing you might want to consider is your humidity gauage. Most store bought humidity gauages sold in hardware store for $10-$12 are usually cheap. Most of them will only read up to 80% humidity.

Maybe yours isn't calibrated very well, or it's like some of the one I have...cheap;-)
