perlite humidity tek control
    #965081 -

using the perlite tek with both pf cakes and a few horse poo tek casings, how does one vary the humidity levels in a perlite-only humidity source terrarium? i've read that hygrometers are usually inaccurate above 90%, so how would one vary the RH from 95% (pinning) to 85% (fruiting) with good results? matter of spraying walls more, or sometimes not at all?
please help!!!

For cakes, the simplest means of lowering humidity is to fan more often. Also, if your cakes are directly ON the perlite, you will want to move them off and above the perlite.

The poo generates a good deal of humidity on its own, perlite is usually not necessary. To lower these tray's humidity you should remove them from the terrarium entirely (placing some covering over it such as plastic to prevent it from drying out), and simply mist occasionaly or place them in a separate terrarium with just a small amount of moist perlite in an adjacent tray for humidity.

Analog hygrometers, when properly calibrated can be accurate within 2%, even above 90% humidity. With experience you won't rely on it so much, but I think it is a worthwile investment for new growers.

it sounds like you are comtemplating doing casings and cakes in the same terrarium. my understanding is that cakes and casings have different humidity requirements: casings around 85 percent and cakes 95%. so as bn suggests you should probably have them in different containers.
