Loss of substrate moisture. Should I case? [Monotub]

Hi all!

It's my first grow and it's been a fun and educating journey so far. I used 66qt box with 6 holes on the substrate level and 2 holes on the top. My substrate is Coco/verm as in Demion5050 tek.
It colonised nicely in 10 days and I initiated the fruiting with removing the tapes and using polyfil. Nothing has happened within 7 days and the surface was glistering with moisture with a few "ponds" of water, so stupidly I drastically increased FAE by removing polyfil and opening the lid. I left it open overnight and I think I overdried the substrate. That was 3 days ago. Since then there's no moisture in the monotub. I misted it a couple of times but it dries out quickly. No signs of pinning and the mycelium appears shiny but dry... I was thinking to case the myc with coco/verm to get some moisture back in. Would it do any good? Could you provide any other suggestions? I will upload pictures later when I'll be back at home. I just hope it's still possible to recover it.

Next time don't remove the Polyfil and open the lid for a night, that was your obvious problem as I'm sure you know.

If it were me I'd heavily mist it and depending on how dry it was pour a bit of water on the side to go on the bottom for the substrate to soak it up but more than likely you'll be fine with a HEAVY misting (leave puddles if dub is that dry it'll soak it up over an hour or so).

Will do that, thanks! I worried about making the myc prone to contam if I mist too heavily.

Btw, Is there any method to check the water content of a substrate without damaging the mycelium?

You should be able to tell as you become more experienced. Mycellium looks different when its stressed out and dry.

Other than that you can always lift a tub to see how much water its lost by comparing it to a colonizing tub but realistically you should be able to read moisture content of the substrate just by evaluating surface conditions.

Here are the pictures. I had some green mold growing on the side in the corner so I cut it out and I checked the sub moisture - it's not completely dry, it's rather damp. Should I mist it more? Also, I'm worried some mold is growing in the middle, I tried to catch it on the last pic.

Any comments, thoughts, tips would be really appreciated!

If you're getting contaminations before your even pinning then theres a large chance the whole thing will just continue to turn green because your spawn was contaminated (cant always see the contam always have to smell) and you'll end up with nothing. Goodluck but usually is toast if its turning green beforw it even pins.
