Letting go of old accomplishments good or bad? * 2
    #25077559 -

Its easy to get focused on old accomplishments, especially when times are bad. I served in the military and went to a university of California. I don't want to hold onto those things anymore. They seem to hinder me mentally. Often I see veterans with their stickers and things that show off their military service, but I don't like that. Then I see people with their alumni license plates and stuff showing off their college. That's not something I want to do either.

Maybe it's just the jobs I've worked in, but I've always found it better to not mention my past accomplishments because it seems to let people see me more clear for who I am now. Is it good to let go of past accomplishment or bad?

I dont really think about my past nor do I wear it on my sleeve. To me I burn all that shit where it lies... sure I am the sum of my past but as it does not dictate my future I am fine with just taking the skills i obtained and leaving all the past stuff where it is.

To put it simply I define myself as "violet wizard" (use my real name in life) and generally i feel very "violet wizardy" on any given day as my emotions are pretty even and predictable.

I would never identify as someone from the university i went to, though i will gladly disclose the information if asked... I was never someone who would shout from the roof tops my achievements or even really speak public about them at all. Its usually someone else that finds my life interesting that draws it out of me lol

We are on the same page i think. Its hard to articulate but because i readily identify as myself and find that to be special and unique thats all i identify as and its the only group i truly want to be a part of anyway

It should be noted i still privately celebrate my achievements, i even post stuff on facebook pertaining to when i do something like extract dmt... sure its a picture of "Tiny Rick" or "Dexter from Dexter lab" or bender from futurama announcing hes great... celebrate victories and move on with the confidence from them not the baggage.

I think that a balance has to be struck between pride and competence.

Well is memory the substance of time?

A cubic triangulation which precisely nails down a memory.. Anrich anpin.. lesser countenance Zer Anpin.. greater countenance..

You don't have to take a side as good or bad accomplishments.. but the best way is to be honest with your response to your memories..

Like regret is valid because you know in the future you can improve on a situation..

Feeling fear or jealousy is good because youll be able to avoid danger and learn to live and try to be like what you are jealous of..

I probably wouldn't say this in person but being a murdeler I don't think is a great past accomplishment, and if you didn't do that then maybe you didn't achieve anything in the army. But I know that's bull because there are great roles in the army that don't involve shooting people.

I've tended towards letting go of past muck ups.
Even so I probably wouldn't let go of old accomplishments, though I wouldn't bring them up either, let them go with the flow eh.

For whatever reason I consider(ed) it some sort of accomplishment but I don't think I should say to those newly around me that I've had more than a day or two in the life of snoopdogg, maybe because it's not an achievement and I didn't have all the music, the money or the scantily clad ladies.

I think a bit of pride is fine and healthy . . .

But I find any ongoing focus on past or current accomplishments is shaking hands with the devil.

It leads to an emotional roller-coaster - how you feel is dependent on performance ratings.

"I did well" =>     "I did poorly" =>  :frown:

You wont be thinking about the last fight if you lose the next one.
Best to use your experience not focus upon it.
