i might buy an SKS

from this dude i work with. hes asking 400. hes gonna let me take it out and shoot it see if i like it. as long as it doenst have any major defects, im sure i will. a friend of mine had one i used to shoot all  the time, and i loved it.

im not too particularly knowledgeable when it comes to this kind of stuff though. does 400 seem like a reasonable price? anything specific i should be looking for when i take it out?  he says its a chinese model, if that helps any.

What kind of SKS? Multiple countries manufactured them, some were better then others. Eitherway $400 is a little pricey unless things have drastically gone up over the years. You can damn near get 7.62 Saiga for that price.

he said less than 800, but im not sure i trust him enough to know for sure. ill be taking it out to shoot with it tomorrow. one thing that concerns me, is he says the barrel does not have the chrome lining... i thought only the yugo version did not?

Fuck SKS.  You can buy a descent AK for 500. AR15s are dirt cheap now too. Palmetto Armory has great deals on parts. You could build your own for 350ish $$.. Or buy a brand new one for under 500, AK or AR15..

I personally wouldn't pay $400 for an SKS.

A guy tried to sell me a Chinese one a few weeks ago for $200 and it came with the spike bayonet and 30 round mags.

im not really "looking" to get another rifle, this is more of an impulse buy, if it happens... the opportunity presented itself, and so im considering it. ive had a lot of fun with an sks in the past, wouldn't mind having one. ill try to talk him down on the price a bit.
