Re: US Gun Laws [Re: Enlil]
    #24699960 -

Most of my arguments in the last few posts have been specifically against brandishing guns in public. I'll bring up my example of a classroom again. If a student walks into my classroom strapped, then he has technically done nothing wrong, since it's now illegal for campus to ban guns.

I'm guessing the response from the rest of his (statistically) classmates is not going to be measured and responsible. I'm thinking this is a scenario in which "inciting mass panic with a high chance of injury" applies.

So, let's talk about whats wrong with having guns locked in a safe at home:

Nothing.

Absolutely nothing. Like, at all. It's really just a bad apple spoils the barrel argument at this point. 99.9% of all gun owners are responsible individuals who are just a little insecure about their penis. However, I find myself routinely crossing the street when I see a sworn officer of the law with a gun on his hip, I do a complete 180 when I see a person with one. Why? because of a couple of high profile shooting sprees, and because I can't tell what's going through his (again, statistics) head.

So, yeah. A lot of this argument boils down to a simple formula:

Madman+gun=Mass shooting

I don't know what's in your head. One day your gun is locked away in a gun cabinet, the next you're on the 32nd story shooting at a concert. Sure, self defense is a valid concern. Defend yourself with a weapon that has an effective range of a few feet, like a knife. I can outrun that if you snap and go on the offensive.

When your defensive weapon comes with a 4x optic, that's no longer defense. You don't pick off burglars from a half mile away from your house. When your defensive weapon can kill two dozen people in literally a few seconds, that's no longer a defensive weapon unless you live in an active zombie apocalypse. when your defensive weapon does both of the above, but also shoots .50 BMG and is capable of killing buildings, that's not a defensive weapon. That's siege weaponry for the day your boss puts a little too much on your plate.

You can't outrun my car, crossbow, knife, blowgun, or spear either.

Simply put, if I want to kill you, you're probably going to die.

Your speculative fear of potential harm from me isn't enough to limit my freedom.  You haven't even come close to giving me something to counter that.

Most Owners of Firearms know that gun control is a fallacy. Look at Chicago. You never hear the news or the Democrats talk about Chicago's strict gun laws do you? The more law abiding citizens that are armed, the lower the Crime. There are many cases proving this. But again, you won't hear about them from the media or the Democrats.

Let's not make this a Dem/Republican thing. There are plenty of Dems who don't give a fuck about the issue of guns. Also, it's not very hard to get guns. It's fucking easy. You can buy a gun at fucking Walmart lol!

I think Enlil made the best point on this subject: You are less likely to be killed by a rampaging maniac or a terrorist than to win the fucking lottery. It happens, and it is horrific when it happens, but we can't kiddie proof the world.

I suppose if we had these sort of attacks happening once a week, or month, it would garner more attention from policymakers...

81% of Democrats want more(stricter) gun control. So it kinda is about the Democrats. I'm sure 8 years ago, most Dems didn't care about gun control but the last 4 years have brought about a change in the Democratic party. They have completely lost their minds.

Yes, you can buy guns at Walmart with the appropriate permit and also background checks just like every other Gun Shop and every other law abiding Citizen. If you are a Criminal, you don't need that all that shit. So what's easier?

I live in Canada and all my weapons are illegal. I bought them without proper documentation on the open market. People dont give a fuck, show up clean cut and well dressed and they wont even bat an eye selling you a semi automatic battle rifle.

EDIT: Technically Im banned from owning any sort of weapon for another 3 years. Do you think thats stopped me? Nope. Modifying some of these weapons into full auto is ridiculously easy too. What are these laws doing to hinder me? Nothing. Theyre purely retroactive in nature.

You’re right guys I now see the light.  Let’s make it easier for people to get get firearms because, you know, that’s my right as a citizen in this country.  Shit, why stop at firearms?  This is a free country, man, and we should be allowed to have any god damn weapon of our choosing.  Machine guns are for pussies anyway.  We should allow rocket launchers and fucking ray guns.  Imagine if someone at that concert in Vegas had a rocket launcher too.  This violence could have been stopped much sooner and fewer innocent people would have lost their lives.

So, you're not interested in a rational debate or discussion.  You're just interested in sarcastic bullshit.

If they're so easy to convert to full auto, why is it that we don't see full auto used in any of these shootings?

Because people who commit crimes like these are mental, no rational person is going to go shoot up a group of innocents for any reason. Theres just nothing to be gained, no matter what cause you're trying to champion.

But if you knew how full autos functioned you'd realize how easy the conversion is. Full auto is just a trip switch on the trigger thats set off by the bolt being blown back. Its not some super advanced high tech military bullshit that you need 9 years of training to accomplish. You could do it with a coping saw, a file, and a small piece of flatstock.

I know full well how full auto works. I've built a grease gun that fires 45 acp full auto. The mecanism is not complicated. On gas blowback systems theres some other things you need to take into account but overall the same concepts apply.

Lol, dude.  I have fully restored three vehicles, turbocharged 4 of them, and straight up created robots from nothing.

You don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Creating robots from off the shelf components and library based opensource code is childs play. So is slapping an airpump on an engine. You have no idea what you're talking about. This technology is not complicated. Fabricating a weapon in its entirety is not even that complicated. An arduino controlled 4 axis lathe can pump out fully assembled weapons en masse with a single set of CADfiles.

But muh laws. Lol fuck laws.

Lol, off the shelf components?  I'm talking 1984, bro.  My components were ICs, and my programing was directly into ram with toggle switches. You're dreaming.

Enlil just doesnt understand what it takes to fabricate things so he finds it unbelievable. His entire life revolves around legal arguments and thinking them out and even making something like a cast alloy wheel is just completely alien to him.

I didn't say it was unbelievable at all.  I said I don't think you understand the concept.
