US Gun Laws * 1
    #24684423 -

I typically steer clear of political discussions as it's just not really my jam.  But in light of the recent attack in Las Vegas, I've been thinking a lot about the gun laws and lack of gun control in the US.

It just seems so illogical to me that 1.  people can get guns so easily in this country and 2. these people are also able to get guns that look like they belong on the battlefield.

If people want to own guns for hunting purposes or for self defense, I get that.  Single shot, long range rifles, or a shotgun, or hand gun.  That make sense.  That seems so logical to me.  And while purchasing a firearm is your right as a US citizen, that doesn't mean it should be an easy thing to obtain given the potential impact they can have on a life or lives.  Again, that just seems like the logical thing to do.

Why do most owners and supporters of firearms refuse to budge even one inch on this topic?

Automatic weapons are only able to be bought through the federal government.

Bump stocks are for semi-automatic weapons, which can be made or bought. Making them illegal would not stop gun violence. Still, I agree we should make them highly illegal.

As for increased background checks, what do you want to do? Force all gun owners to see a psychiatrist?

What about non-gun owners who live with gun owners?

I feel like there's a lot of data from other countries with stricter gun laws that shows that it greatly curbs gun violence.

You can legally buy a machine gun in Nevada and you don't get them through the federet government they just need to be registered with the govt.  No matter how you get them or where you get them from, why do they need to be available to the general public to begin with?

I feel like there's a lot of data from other countries with stricter gun laws that shows that it greatly curbs gun violence.  It's just too easy to get guns here.  Why not make it more difficult?  What's the harm in that?

As long as we have guns in this country there will be gun violence.  That's just the way it is.  But we don't need to make things so fucking easy and add extra danger to the situation.

It may slow down gun violence but in turn knife and other violence would rise.

Ya, I can entertain the idea.

Just for the sake of argument, a person may rebuttal: "This is just a way for the government to disarm the U.S. population."

What kinds of ideas about making guns harder to purchase?

You can 3D print guns

Guns will never go anywhere no matter the law

I am a supporter of stricter background checks though

That is my question too. I see the "I'm for stricter background checks" line get thrown around a lot.

Are we talking about restricting more people?

We already have an FBI background check to purchase a firearm.

Are we talking about an NSA background check or what?

You're right, it's not an easy answer.  But banning automatic weapons or weapons built for the battlefield would be a pretty easy thing to do.  As far as I'm concerned they serve zero purpose.

One may benefit from dwelling on "why do police forces need to increasingly militarize (defined: purchasing and implementing into standard operation equipment previously used or that would be used by the US military) themselves, especially in light of ever-increasing and -restrictive civilian gun laws?".

I would begrudgingly turn in my rifle. They would have to pay me for it and I would use that money to purchase a serial numberless AR-15 lower and build my own off the grid rifle.

As a member in good standing of the good 'ole boy network, I know exactly where to find a virgin serial numberless lower receiver. :haha:

Even the ACLU is against the mental health ban on firearms for a variety of different reasons.

Pretty much any average deer rifle is more powerful and deadly than an AK-47 or AR-15 or something though. They have smaller rounds, less power, and shorter range. An AK-47 doesn't have shit on a 30-06. You should look at the bullets next to each other.

Stricter laws and background checks should be implemented for the 1st amendment as well...Seriously guys, the 2nd amendment is not there for Billy Bob to go hunting.
