    #24577708 -

I have to work all weekend despite there being a hurricane. Probably going to clock mad overtime. What are you doing?

We're pretty much stuck. It's coming pretty much right at us as well.. I expect my city to be fucked pretty hard, it usually is. Probably won't have power for weeks again. FML. I went and sealed up my car best I can.. It has a bunch of issues that I've been needing to fix but we haven't really had the money (waiting on settlement from when my wife got hit a while back) that lets rain and water into the doors.. So I spent a couple hours just taking the car apart to get to the window cuz the regulator is all fucked on it.. Finally got that done. Put my car up on ramps to keep the engine out of water and locked it up.

Other than that, not much I can do but just wait and see what happens. I have a chainsaw for this year so if the trees go down, which I fully expect they will, at least I'll be able to get them cleared up easily. Then I'm going to bitch out our electrical provider, because the trees are rotting and tangled up in their power lines so I can't do anything about it and they're supposed to have sent people out to deal with it, but have sent no one to even look at it yet. Put in the request months ago too. At least they're not by my house so we won't have to worry about them destroying our house. Might fuck up our store room though, or our neighbors store room on like 3 sides.. It's so fucked lol. If shit falls there's basically no way it can go without seriously fucking some shit up.

If power goes down and isn't coming back up, probably gonna find a way to head inland and find a cheap motel or something to stay in while they get shit back together. Dunno how we're gonna do it but we're gonna have to if shit gets that bad.

We're stocked up on food and water and what not at least. Really hope this shit just blows over but I don't expect it to.

And I just remembered we have a trampoline outside.. I've gotta figure out what to do about that shit tomorrow I guess.

Wife's at Walmart, says the same thing..

She's sending me pictures of the aisles and shit... Everyone is buying fucking everything lol. Every pic she sends is like a shelf completely empty except for a couple of items.

@shroomslip. Most important thing car wise is to close off  the inlet pipe on your air intake leading to the throttle body. I'm sure you probably already know this, but just in case.

Shroomslip - if you are still reading this, GET OUT. This monster already packs winds of 175km/h, and it is very likely to continue to strengthen right up until landfall. A category 4 hurricane is not out of the question! It might even make a run up to cat 5

This won't just be a hurricane...it will be a hurricane that sits over your area for several days. Flooding will be the biggest problem, after the wind of course. It is expected to drop 35 INCHES of rain on you. How far are you above sea level?

There is no way I can leave. I am a manager at a dog kennel and there are dogs boarding at the kennel. It is necessary for someone to be there to make sure they at the very least drink water, don't just lie in their own shit and piss for days on end, and not kill each other. The kennel floods whenever this happens, so this is going to be a pain in the ass. But someone has to do it. The owner rented a hotel room right across from the kennel so that I don't have to drive home.

Supposedly my area is around 20-30 feet or so. My house is up another 4-5 feet I guess (from lowest point in the road), it's one of the few houses in the neighborhood actually up on a raised foundation rather than just sitting on the ground. During really heavy rain my yard will turn into a lake more or less but even during some of the worst hurricanes that basically buried entire 18 wheelers in Houston, the water has never even reached the first step of my front/back doors. It's never been more than a few inches high actually (even when a storm has dropped a couple of feet of rain on my area). This won't be the first serious hurricane we've rode out. I think we've only ever evacuated for one hurricane and we basically just went to a friends apartment because he was on the second story. We usually only leave afterwards when the city is too tore up to function and there's no point in staying. Can't find food, water, gas or anything like that, no power or anything either, usually stays that way for weeks.

Leaving kinda isn't an option right now. Wife already contacted her job and was told she'd have to ask the store manager about whether we're "allowed to leave or not". I mean I'm not going to risk our lives over a fucking job, but right now we're kinda just waiting to see what's gonna happen with that. We also have 3 dogs which will make leaving even harder. Only one of them is small, so we can't "hide them" either. EDIT: Just got word from wife, they're not closing the store so we can't leave, unless we want to risk her job. So yeah that's only happening if one of us actually feels threatened (right now we're pretty concerned but not "threatened"). Though I am still very strongly saying fuck her store and fuck her manager and going. Won't take us long to leave if we decide to go. I can have our car(s) packed in less than 10 minutes.

I know this Hurricane is going to be bad, but like I said, we've sat through some pretty bad ones already. Allison being one of the most notable. I mean I was really young for that, but I've lived in this same city (practically the same neighborhood) all my life. Me and my grandparents stayed behind at a motel or something. That storm completely fucked Houston and swallowed entire overpasses and shit.. My house was still here (though we weren't living in at the time).

@let's drive around, yeah I already know, but I mean if water is getting that high on my car, it's the least of my worries. If it's getting that high, it means the water is also coming in my house, and pretty much my entire engine and the interior of my car are completely filled with water. It's totaled (it's worth less than 1k in it's current condition anyways) and there's no point in trying to salvage it.

Totally agree.. They're all kind of idiots though. Too worried about losing their nice comfy jobs where they don't have to do anything but sit in an office all day. My county (Harris) still hasn't listed a mandatory or voluntary evacuation order either (not that I've seen and I've been checking). If they do, I'm most likely going. If the store manager or the company want to say shit then, they can go get fucked. I'll call the news stations and shit and let "journalists" hound them and make national news. I can see the headlines now "Family nearly killed because company wouldn't allow them to evacuate hurricane".

I haven't done all the research because I've got other shit to worry about right now but I'm pretty sure if we're told to evacuate, they can't legally make us stay behind anyways. If they fire her for leaving after that point, there's probably some law on the books I can exploit and sue them if need be, which honestly, I would love to happen right now. I'm pretty sure my wife would have little trouble finding an equally well paying (or even better paying job) if it came to that.

EDIT: Also if water does get that high, we still have the attic, it has a solid floor and lots of room, we could easily fit a dozen people up there. It has pretty easy access to the roof if we needed to escape as well, I'd just have to knock out a few boards. Then we can wait for rescue or whatever. There are 2 large boats not being used within a short swimming distance for me (I'm a good swimmer though I know it's dangerous as fuck to attempt something like that) that I could also jack if somehow this shit starts turning into Noah's flood. In my mind I've basically thought of every escape I can so that I don't have to panic if one falls through. I'm as ready for this shit as anyone can be.

Thanks for all the kind wishes, we're really hoping for the best but I've already planned for the worst. I even know where I'm headed if we do evacuate. I'll try to keep you updated as best I can, but I expect power to go down sometime tonight or early tomorrow and it probably won't be back for awhile. It's already raining and stuff, but not bad. There's no water pooling in my yard or street yet. I know the worst is still yet to come though.

http://abc13.com/weather/officials-to-harris-co-residents-dont-evacuate-yet/2340538/

Yeah still no order, actually they don't even want us to evacuate.. Basically just my county as well. When everyone else is getting evacuation orders makes me nervous as hell like whoever is in charge of my county is an idiot (and they may be) but it gives me hope at least. Just keeping a watch on it minute by minute waiting for the order to go. Wife is at work right now anyways so we wouldn't be going right now.. It'll be sometime later tonight.

EDIT: I think Morrow is also in Harris.

Eye is looking like it's going to hit Corpus Christi sometime around Midnight tonight. That put us well out of the path of the eye, but still within that dirty band of heavy rain.. Although looking at the current and future models it looks like The majority of the rain is going to pass us by on both sides, like we're right in this little clean slice of cloudless-ness or whatever. I still expect heavy flooding and they're saying it may go back out to the gulf and work it's way towards LA which would really fuck us over, but right now, things are looking good for us.

From my wife:
Quote:
Little while ago I answered the phone at work. Starts off normal asking if we have water or bread. Told her we didn't. She informs me she and her kids have no water or food or anything and asked could I help her. I told her I didn't have any money to spare. She said I don't want your money. Could I come down to the store and you just give me what I need? I told her I couldn't. Her response??!

"I hope the storm takes you away!"

Shit lady, if it puts distance between me and idiots like you, I hope so too.

Preparations finally done. Put a tarp over my car (over the stuff I'd already did, it's gonna need all the help it can get). Took down our trampoline and piled a bunch of heavy objects that will no doubt go flying in high wind on top and tied all down.. It's either all going to stay put or the entire thing is going to take off flying, which might be kind of interesting to see honestly. Once the wind picks up, I'm gonna go stand by the back door and see if it looks like we might get lift off, if so I'm going to record it for sure. Got all our laundry and shit done, most of our food is non-perishables but the fridge is loaded up to help keep things cool so we can eat what will perish fast without wasting much of it. Evacuation plan in place if we decide to go, most everything we need to survive can be grabbed as we're headed out the door, just gotta shove it all in the car(s) and go.

Ready as I'm ever going to be. Bring it on Harvey.. Give me your worst.
