If they do not have a milky substance when broken, they are chantrelles

Thanks Doc, I didn't notice any milky substance from the flesh but I wasn't looking for it. I'll go back and collect a specimen to confirm.

I don't know anything about Australian mushrooms but I've collected hundreds of pounds of chanterelles in the USA and that doesn't look like one to me. Looks more like Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca.

I don't think these are Cantharellus coccineus, which I have observed to be uniformly orange in colour. They could be another Cantharellus species. IMO get in touch with Zen peddler or formerly bluemeanie or Selby Shrooms on Facebook. He knows AU edibles pretty well.

I just found these yesterday. These are yellow footed chanterelles

Chanterelle are popping in North Carolina now. I'm finding smooth, yellow foot, and fragrant chanterelles not to mention the little cinnabar red chantrell that is brite. Wow.

The specks on the cap should have been tell tale sign to me that they aren't chantrelles, chantrelles are smooth.

No they're not, they are hygrophoropsis, if you would have read the thread you would have seen that we have already been over this. Chantrelles don't have those little specks, they are smooth. Chef Jay has a pic of real chantrelles up there.
