I dont have issues with my agar when im working with cultures on a daily but almost all my syringes are bacterial and some prints were pretty gnarly as well.


Im trying to figure out how to get myc growth out of bacterial shit

i think anti bacterial agar is the way to go there, i dont think it inhibits fungi at all, so mold and stuff will still grow but bacteria wont.

But, unless its some miracle, all my peroxide agar dishes are showing no signs of contamination at all, one even had a hair fall on it from my arm since i wasnt using plastic sleeves this time.

What is your opinion on the antibacterial properties of raw honey added to agar?

Raw manuka honey is used on wounds for animals in some cases. It has been noted to cut healing time in half.

Honey is only anti bacteria because its so super sugary that it rips water away form anything like bacteria

Houston we've found the problem.. If you were practicing proper sterile technique this wouldn't be possible. At no point should anything pass over an open dish except for a recently flamed scalpel or loop.

I always found it odd that you hear lots saying do not use it, it will slow down your growth dramatically, but you also always hear of it degrading VERY quickly. I did some tests with LCs with it and think it is worth looking into, if it suits you, I was also testing using bleach & vinegar mixtures, which also are said to degrade quick enough. I was using both sunlight and heat to degrade.

Many people here have their own setup & equipment and have a "if it ain't broke don't fix it attitude", they point blank refuse to think about how something might be useful to others, who do not have the same setup and/or skills. Things get dismissed as unfeasible, too time consuming, impractical, but usually they only have themselves in mind and cannot understand that to other people this apparent negative is extremely minor.

Yass. Sugar is quite hydroscopic.

As for a favorite sugar friend when diluted I'd just buy the cheap three dollar honey. It's most likely mostly corn syrup. In my country we can call anything honey. That's why I buy the local raw unfiltered honey if I want health benefits.
