They don't need to be small, you should be comfortable moving your arms around. Too tight and your arms will stir up air much in the same way a glove box will

yeah there's the piston effect, also used to bodybuild so forearms are big

speak of the devil. i just pulled out some old cobweb covered mason jars. does that bring good luck? lol..

one thing that i don't know if there is an answer to is meal bugs. anyone have any good storage containers that keep those beasts at bay. even when i get new bags, the meal bugs come with them.

im using duct tape right now. but i had 4-50lb bags in the garage. it turned into a meal bug festival in my garage. i had to end up dumping out 1 whole bag and killing meal bugs with my hands for about 2 hours one day. i eradicated them, but damn it was a pita. it makes me not want to use grain. but it wouldn't matter if its wbs, oats, rye. meal bugs are part of the package. generally i don't see them until the grain has been there 2 months. but those fuckers are hard to kill and they get into everything. luckily i kept them away from the kitchen.

hell even flour from whole foods gets meal bugs. i have to keep flour in my freezer so they dont take over my grain. so ive taken the route of small bags of flour in the freezer. i know azur said he used a big metal bucket, but im curious to what brand and would like a suggestion if anyone has an airtight, bug tight sealed container they use.

and i run through grain fast, so its not generally sitting that long. the meal bugs just come quickly in the summer heat.

Ive always just rolled the excess of the bag and used a chip bag clip on it but I buy it when needed 25 lbs for 6 bucks and usually use within a couple weeks of opening the bag

Maybe, you could store the gain in air tight container, and THEN, replace the oxygen with say CO2 ?
I'm sure those little bastard would not like it .

Storing grains in a freezer will prevent the bugs life cycle from progressing

Perhaps a large chest style freezer could cure the problem

Also food grade plastic 5 gal bucket lids come with a rubber seal

I've had all kinds of different grains around for very long periods of time and never noticed any bugs:shrug:

Mice went haywire in my storage unit with wbs rye and oats but that's the worst I've seen.

Really scares me hearing about them so I would definitely like to prevent them...

Guess I will try to get my grain as close to when I need it in the future...

could be the heat. doesn't take long around these woods for anything, even flour to get meal bugs quick. i think the standard box of cereal is allowed 50,000 bug parts...nature has lots of protein. the mushies eat the meal bugs, im just more concerned with infestations. it only happened one time because i left a 50lb bag for a few months. but that was a nightmare. in my previous place, i had an infestation in flour in one of my cabinets. by the time i found it, i had to chunk nearly everything dry in the cabinet.

freezer would work yes, but i have no room for one and don't want to pay for it. im just looking for a very air tight metal container. i just want one someone has had luck with so far.

how about a meat freezer but just don't plug it in. You could maybe find an nonworking one for pretty cheap.

Been looking for some lids like these and can't find anything.

I was willing to pay good money for them so I decided a little time was worth it to make my own.

No hole saw or glue used at all. Just a torch a couple cans and my heat resistant gloved hands.

We'll see how they hold up in the pc, btw thanks hamloaf for the idea on the no pour containers. found them super cheap at target

they are similar, almost exact, to these containers from big lots

except they are made and sold in Europe. I received them from a fellow shroomerite when I couldn't find any of the containers at big lots in my area.

The EU ones only lasted a couple pc runs before the tabs became to loose to say in place.
The us ones I have pc 10+ times with not a single failure.

I just melted the whole top of the lid out with a progresso can.
