This is sweet! Before I built my hood I was gunna make a custom SAB out of plexiglass and a frame, I wanted to have the top angled like a sneeze gaurd and open on hinges.
As well as a piece of plexiglass on hinges to come down and cover the arm holes

Corning 60mm Pyrex petri dishes. I know the price is high, but I don't want to be throwing more stuff in the landfill than I have to.

This is how I used to do it!
Actully the loop I bought is essentially the same thing, a handle that you set the wire in and clamp, and loop and twist the nichrome wire

Yessur, I bought some fancy wire for my vaporizer that I never got to work well.
Luckily it makes a perfect inoculating loop for my new hobby!
Anybody want to trade prints for beautifully twisted wire?

Hahaha

How does it hold up? I find nichrome wire will melt if you torch it too long gotta just kiss it with the flame till it glows then pull out

Honestly haven't used it too much yet, but I've torched it up a bunch and seems to hold up.
The reason the wire never worked for my vaporizer is because it was a denser kind of wire than what is most frequently used and I could never get it to heat up properly.
I agree the regular nichrome probably wouldn't hold up.

Very nice:thumbup: One of the best things I've done is get a bigger more comfortable  SAB and a torch, contam rate went way down.

Rather than permanently wreck a glass aquarium you could have just turned it on its side and cover the open end with painters plastic with arm holes cut in it or done the same with plexi. Looks like those arm holes cut into the glass may be a bit sharp.

Three racks so far, with more room to expand vertically if I want to.

Right now this holds about the same as a 9 try excalibur, but I can easily double or tripple that.  I checked it with a heat gun and it was 180F.

I hope it's not a fire hazard, and I hope that the space heater at the bottom does fry from the extreme heat.

You can search for Polymethylpentene (PMP) petris. They're not cheap, but they are "infinitely" reusable plastic petris and are very clear. Perfect for agar work and microscopy.

Dude..Nice build..Maybe a baseboard heater or a kick heater would be safer? All metal.. They run on 240, but its easy to set up a 240 circuit for the dryer.

Glass is good, however if you're a bit clumsy it breaks, polymethylpentene will not break if you let it fall on the floor. It's a long term investment.

nice nd. also remember there is a 10$ replacement kit that has an extra blade/ 2 gaskets and a black base. its a useful tool when you find that you need more than one blender because Liquids are the shiz!

Look on line for replacement blades. I found a canadian whole sale site that sells Oster blade for like $5. I'd be surprised if you couldn't get them even cheaper in the US. I have 6 and still wish I had more.

I started using them to inoculate and mix my LCs.

If you're not in a hurry, here you can get them for $2.99:

They also have the seals for $1:

Hello,
Just bought this huge 3 foot tall bag of perlite, more than I'll ever need. But I bought this particular bag because the perlite chunks are bigger=less mess and won't leak out the drilled holes from the sgfc

maybe you could still use the fine verm if you put a window screen in the bottom.  I don't know if you need fine or coarse anyway
