I just got a hell of a lecture from some self-righteous vegan about how terrible it is to eat meat, and how everyone shouldn't do it. I mean, she was really going after me.

Very annoying. Why the fuck can't she just let me eat my chicken in peace? Stupid bitch.

I don't care if she wants to be a vegan, but she shouldn't try so hard to push her ideals onto others. I hope I never see her again.

Anyone else ever got a lecture from a vegan?

its called BORING...and when they do i ALWAYS say "oh god, i need a nice big juicy bloody steak now" grosses them out. and they call me a MURDERER!

i got lectured by a marine recruiter one day. i kept saying leave me alone, but he wouldnt stop. he was like " where do you want to go in life son" . i was like "nowhere i want to be a bum" . it was in a parking lot too, wtf is wrong with people nobody likes being hounded

Anyway, I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with eating meat. If I did become vegetarian(I tried for a while, but it didn't last long), it would be because of environmental concerns, not the well-being of the animals. I think it would be better for the environment if we actually hunted our food instead of having these huge, habitat-destroying cattle ranches.

While I believe in animal rights to a certain extent, groups like PETA go WAY too far. And some of these people make me wonder if a lack of protein causes brain damage.

I've been vegan for almost 8 years, and vegetarian for 2-3 years before that. Its not a big deal for me any more. People can and do eat whatever they want, I don't want to change their minds. If they want to discuss vegetarianism (I never bring it up) I try and talk about it in a non-judgemental fashion, you know, have an actual dialog.

I think diet is too complex to have hard and fast rules for everyone. For example, peoples bodies can be very different and require different foods (or lack thereof) for good nutrition.

However most people I talk to, do seem to accept the notion that if we are going to farm animals for food, they should be treated with a modicum of respect, and that this is not always the case in modern factory farms.

I have two step-cousins who are militant vegans. I myself am vegetarian because I never really have liked the taste of meat, and I think modern methods of meat production are horrible, both for the animals and for the environment. It's one thing to share your views, to explain (to somebody who is interested, mind you) why you sustain from eating meat or animal products... it's another thing to be one of these jackasses claiming rightousness... no different than evangelical christians, in my opinion. I've learned to just stay away from crazy folk.. it makes much less annoyance in your own life. They're not gonna stop being a militant vegan just 'cause you try to shock them, its only going to make them more sure about their views... just ignore them, and they'll go away! Hopefully. if not, beat them with a large drumstick (the chicken kind, not the musical kind)... that outta hold them at bay

i am more or less vegan but that is because i get sick from meat and milk products, been that way all my life. i really dont care about what other people eat. but i do think people eat to much food that is crap, one example , macdonalds. i find it odd that people eat everything as long as its fast and taste somewhat good (i wouldnt know about that) instead of eatin good healthy food, there is good meat and bad meat im sure. and eatin a half rotten piece of meat in bread cant be good. people eat them self fat and lazy instead of giving their own body what it wants. meat or no meat.

Animal Liberation Front. They do great work - break into frivolous testing facilities and rescue the animals. The ALF network will then bring the animals to their own underground sanctuaries out in the sticks & take good care of them.

ELF is more about destruction. ALF is about rescuing and nuturing animals via direct action. Big difference. ALF does resort to property destruction on occasion, but they are far more discriminating then the ELF. The motivations are also different: ELF wants destruction of industrial society in general while ALF seeks to liberate puppies and other defenseless creatures from torture.





re: prostelyizing vegans: some vegans/vegetarians do try to convince others, but most dont. I never bother anyone because diet is a personal choice - I?ll debate only if in a debating situation.

EllmyshShade, Innvertigo, and Joe666: You guys have to think of something more clever to say than that. There isn't a vegetarian/vegan alive who hasn't heard those same comments a thousand times, and they'll just think you're another typical dumbass. Every time I mention that I'm a vegetarian (and no I don't push it on other people) somebody always chimes in talking about how much they love their steak/burgers/hotdogs etc. as if they think they're saying something worth hearing.

Dude, I don't rub the fact that I eat meat in the faces of Vegetarians or Vegans.  Read a bit more carefully please.  :smile:  All I ask is that these Vegetarians/Vegans respect my personal decision to eat meat and not give me a lecture about it.  Vegan's making my lunchtime miserable by telling me that I'm an animal abuser for eating a chicken makes THEM look like the dumbass, not me.
