That was Bob Marleys band... of course you can puff there...

Most jamband shows seem to have a similar policy...

Quite a few concerts seem to have a similar lax policy... sometimes, however, you get the rent-a-cop type of security guard who thinks he is tough shit... I'd recommend pre-rolling some joints and carrying them in a pack of cigs... don't bring any glass pieces that you can't afford to lose, as i've seen (and had) glass bowls taken away by security guards. And don't bring so much that it might be considered intent to distribute... you should be fine then

The Crystal Ballroom is pretty chill on that. They used to be a little more hardcore on their policies, but they seemed to have lightened up in the last year or so. You'd think that if they book these kind of acts, they gotta know that people are gonna puff. They will take your pipe sometimes though, so watch out.

So how was the show? I saw the wailers there a couple years ago, they were pretty good. I go to lots of shows there. It's one of my favorite local venues. Good beers too.

Speaking about the Wailers. I was thinking about going to see Ziggy Marley, he will be around here VERY soon ... Anyone know if his shows are decent. I'm not expecting his father, but I have heard Ziggy's studio stuff & it's really effin good. Just wondering if anyone knows ... The show is going to be Ziggy, Michael Franti, and Spearhead so either way I think I might go ...

Okay enough of my run on post

That show sounds like it would probably be pretty good. Maybe a little on the Hip hoppy side of reggae from what I've heard of Spearhead, but I bet it'll be a good line up if you're ok with that.

I was at Primus in Kansas City last Tuesday and they didn't even have security on the floor, just in the entrances. It was an all out free for all. On Friday I went to Des Moines, IA and seen the Yonder Mountain String Band. There they had guards, the tough guy types, on the balcony's spotting smokers and they would signal to other guards on the floor(they all had radios) and they kept the smoking down untill the band busted into 'Legalize It' by Peter Tosh then the guards kind of looked the other way because everyone with anything lit up. They were Nazi assholes you couldn't even bring a drink of any sort into the theatre and if they thought you were acting to wierd they escorted you out.

I ate mushrooms for the show and enjoyed myself very much, the crowd was young and very fucked up but they seemed into the music. I just did my smoking outside and stayed relatively safe. They allowed you to go out side and wander around, you could reenter all you wanted so alot of punks took this oppurtunity try an push chocolates all over. It seems to me you can usually get away with what ever you want to as long as you use your head, some people are complete morons and don't understand this and get busted. Just be cool and you'll be safe.

Dude, Yonder mountain is the shit! They're one of my favorite newer bluegrass bands. I like how they do bluegrass covers of non bluegrass songs. I think my fav. was a version of Northern Song by the Beatles. It was freakin' awesome. I've also heard them do a couple Floyd covers that were really good.

I always have to sneak my joints in past the ticket-takers but after that there are no problems. This year at Ozzfest I had 6 joints in my cig pack when I got in line. When the guy in front of me got frisked he asked to see his cigarettes. He opened up the pack and moved the cigs around looking for stuff. I calmly turned around and went to another ticket-taker.

I've found most concerts to be like this, I've never heard of or seen anyone get arrested for personal use. Some places are stricter about this than others. The Fleet Center in Boston is one of these places, not only will they take your drugs but they'll kick your ass right out. Here's a little story to sum it up: Last winter I was seeing The Other Ones at the Fleet and half way through the show I discovered they changed the direction of the escalators to downstairs instead of up to the next floor. I was pretty drunk and didn't feel like hiking up the stairs so I walked up the escalator, when I got to the top I discovered it was probably alot more work than walking up stationary stairs, more like swimming against the tide but thats besides the point, they took my ticket stub and escorted me outside. I could hear the long drum solo from Darkstar continuing and I was getting pretty anxious that I wasn't inside so I chilled by the exit till the 'gaurd' got distracted by a cell phone call and snuck all the way back up the stairs to catch the encore.

On a related note: I've been at festivals and seen people with large ammounts of drugs in plain view of police, I'd never be so brave or stupid...whichever applies to the situation but it was definitely strange to watch.

yeah...at the dead show i went to last year there were people yelling out mushrooms and headies and holding it up in the air...i was like wtf am i in another country. I saw a cop walking around and went to warn a guy holding some buds in the air and he was like...they wotn do shit. I felt so free and alive is was fucking incredible...i dont know if other shows are like that but that how it was in atlanta at the dead.

acid is another thing...you have to kinda talk to some people and then mention it and they might have some, they might not...or they might call a friend over and sell you some cheep ass fractals and drop them in the water...tell you to eat them and give you more for the trouble!

Yeah, that pretty well describes every Dead show that I've ever been too. I remember the first couple of times, I felt the same way, like WTF? Do people really know what's going on here? I can't believe it. Good times!  :gd_icon:  :spliff:

Michael Franti is brilliant live, seen him for the first
time back in December and he rocks, you'll be jumping all
night. Electric performace he put on then he came into
the small crowd and shook all our hands. His latest cd
Everyone Deserves Music, well the title says it all.
enjoy

Hot shit, Michael Franti & Spearhead are opening up for Ziggy Marley at the Whittemore Center (University of New Hampshire) this week. I've never seen them so I'm gonna check that out for sure.

Vulture: It seems the LSD is on hard times everywhere, there's little available and what is out there has changed hands so much that people somehow get the idea the aim is to get money, not spreadin tha love. But I have faith in the powers that be.
