'dirty' cloning possible?

hi there
i was htinking about an easy way to clone,
why not simply extracting a piece of the lower mushroom body
and inserting it directly into sterile cultivation media in a jar?

wouldn't the conditions still be great for the mycelium to take over
the grain?

or, is the _way_ over agar really worth the trouble?

This works, yes, if you are clean.

I have been meaning to start a thread on this in the very near future to bring this point up. I have been doing this with cyan, azure, and beo cultures. I have been able to produce, what I believe anyone on this board would consider, a large volume of healthy spawn from a few small samples.
What I actually did was every time I went picking this past season I always seemed to end up with a small ammount of mycellium around the base of a few of the mushrooms. I took great care in handling these samples and I kept them in styrofoam containers full sterilized woodchips/alder sawdust, sterilized soaked cardboard, and a very small amount of millet. These containers were kept indoors in a cool basement I started this back in December In late Jan I had enough to start up a few jars. I followed Anno's Azure tek to the T. The initial jars took what seemed like forever. Now I have 2 dozen 1qts that are over 50% colonized. The more mycellium you start with the faster colonization occures IMO. I have had many issues with the beo myc. The Cyan and Azure seems to get stronger and stronger. I never used agar . I have no experience with spores. Never grew Cube. IMO the cyans and azures are very simple to grow for any novice. all you need are the supplies and a ton of patience patience. Its a slow process.Let me know if you have any luck and PM me back for the details of my project. I have kept a detailed grow log with pics. I am going to get it out .....Some time. I gotta get in touch with a moderator because of the volume of pics I have.
