modem problems
    #2392093 - 03/01/04 07:51 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

whenver I dialup using my 56k modem, my system stalls for about 10-15 minutes. Not a typical CPU stall or freeze up (CPU levels are normal) - I simply cannot open up new applications for the 10-15 period. Applications that were already open beforing dialing up work just fine - no slow down.

Usually I just open up the applications that I would think I would need...and then just wait until the freeze is over.

Whats the deal? anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Otherwise I have a pretty good system - pretty of RAM, Pent4 2.4, fast /large hard drives.

oh, yeah I'm running XP.

Edit: Eek! I thought you said 10-15 seconds! My bad and so sorry about that! But Firstrays has some good advice.

I would suggest having a cell phone handy and call your dial-up customer service and get some real answers... a 10 to 15 minute freeze-up is a terrible waste of your time. I mean, c'mon, you are already using dial-up, why should you be made to suffer more? Who is your ISP?

ps- If it DOES end up being a hardware/software problem on your side, most tech support (if trained properly) should still be able to help you troubleshoot to a certain point (I used to work for verizon tech support, we would t-shoot a person's entire system if needed).

Everybody knows you love me baby, everybody knows that you really do. Everybody knows that you've been faithfull, awww, give or take a night or two.
