the room is about 70*F and for the Incubation it says it should be between 75 and 85F, dont wan't it to take really long due to the lower temperature. would it be alright to like lay a heating pad down and put a blanket over the heating pad and then put the jars on top of the blanket to raise the heat a bit? thanks

This rubbermaid is sitting on a heating pad set to medium with nothing between the plastic pad and the bottom of the rubbermaid.

So, ya it works. works good.

old as heating pad from the 80's that was left outside for half of the Chicago winter. I brought it in. Dried it out in front of the fireplace for about an hour, plugged it in and it heated right up.

No heating pad made nowadays would withstand my careless ass.

I tried to sit jars directly on a heating pad once and it killed them. Even the lowest setting can be too hot sometimes. Remember, if it feels warm to the touch, it is above 98.6%, and will most likely result in mycelial death. The blanket is a good idea but i wouldn't use anything that is flammible, like THC said.

yea thats why i didn't think i should sit it directly on the pad. do you think it should be the lowest setting with the blanket or higher one. (oh and the blanket is pretty thick, its not like a sheet) thanks for the advice guys.

go to a waterbed store...use one of their heating pads...the thermostat on them is incredibly accurate. there is very little risk of a fire happening with this and you can place the jars directly only to the heating pad.

My friend uses one of those $10 heatpads from Oscoes. Hes got it on the lowest setting with 1 layer of towel between that and the plastic bin on top which he keeps his jars on. Then, he has a layer of polyfil under the jars, and clumps of polyfil between the jars. This keeps the heat at a constant 85-87 degreez.
