OK, so can I just assume it's OK? Or is the only way to really know to buy a hygrometer????????

If the walls of your terrarium are very slick than you may not see water begin to form drops. Instead the watter drips down to the perlite again. If everything is resonably air tight and you have enough wet perlite than you should be fine.

So it could be humid, just not forming condensation? Ok, is there any wato test for this, without having to buy a hygrometer? Also, does the terrarium need to be above a certain temp in order to stay humid? I've noticed that when I heat things up, they tend to do a better job of staying humid.

In my experience perlite doesn't cause much condensation on the walls even at 98%. I think it has to do with the temp in the terrarium and the temp outside of it.

How much standing water do you have in the bottom of your terrarium? Your perlite won't do you any good if it is submerged. You want all of your perlite to be wet, but you only want a thin layer of water in the bottom of your terrarium.

Hey, that's a good point. I have an aluminum tray holding the perlite, and the water comes up to about a 1/4 inch of the top of the perlite. I will check it out. But I finally got condensation on the walls, I figured out the temp was too low, so I put in a heating pad, but also a thermometer, to make sure it doesn't get too hot.

So, I have the right temp, and humidity...
I'm giving two air exchanges a day...
And I'm giving a few hoursof light a day...

I should have pins in a few days...
RIGHT?????

Just make sure you cut your humidity back when the pins begin to develop, or most will abhort. I changed a lot of things ever since I bought Stamets TMC.

to speed up pins, give them as much light as you can.
condensation occurs due to the warm moist air inside the unit hitting the cooler outer walls. if it's pretty hot outside the tank, you may not see condensation at all yet still have a high humidity.

Thamush said to cut back humidity when pins form. How do I cut back on humidity if I'm using perlite?
