If the jars are taped this really isnt a consern.Place the heating pad under the box and try to insulate around it a bit to help stabliize the temp, keep the jars at 83-86f and they will colonize in no time.

Dont heat them at all. My friend has kept them in his cool basement (65-70F) and full colonization occurred in a few weeks.

I have 5 jars colonizing right now. The only thing i have on them is a desk lamp to keep light on them all of the time. Other than that I dont use anything and they are colonizing fine. I innoculated the jars on June 28th and they are almost colonized around with a thin layer of mycellium.
