Re: The 9r Technique?

A friend always advises using whole grain instead of the PF style cakes. Whole grain brown rice was a stepping stone for him to go on and use rye grain, which, in his opinion, is substrate #1. It's not as hard as a lot of people make it seem, either.
Peace,
Wildman

hello teknik,
A FOAF has been using this substrate for some time. First time he cooked the rice using 9er's recipie, innoculated and nothing was found until like day 5. After that very rhizomorphic mycellium was found to be growing aggressively through the jars.
The thing with the rice is not to overcook it. My FOAF says its better to use it a little time before its ready to eat.

Good luck,
Plankton88

My friend always uses this technique. It's quick, easy, and hard to screw up. Just make sure you don't use too much water and don't let the rice cook too long. Fluff to release extra moisure and voila, you're done. He's also used this method without the vermiculite seal (one hole in inverted lid taped for pc'ing) and had no problems either.
