First time poster****How to handle my side pins? Not another redundant post, promise!

Hello everybody,  I've been soaking up info on these forums for about a yr and 3 months now.

I'm on my third grow and have a seemingly simple question for those of you who are experienced.

I understand why I should have used a black garbage bag in the bottom of my tubs to prevent side pinning, BUT I was a little nervous that I was going to maybe bring in bad air/contams while placing the bag in the tub since I was in no way gracious about my attempt.  I gave up on it and put my substrate in the tub knowing the risk of side pinning.

Well, my tubs are fruiting well thus far but there is side pinning. My question is; Is there a way to remove them without causing risk to contam or butchering my tubs, or do I just ride it out and hope they don't end up rotting,  and prepare better on my next attempt? 

Feel free to give your advice no matter how critical it may be. All advice welcome!

Liners prevent side pins. Clear ones work great. Don't need black. That's bogus 20 year old info.

Same goes for "bad air" you WANT lots of fresh air for fruiting.

Nothing to do at this point, just use a liner for your next grow. If you ever get contams before or during the first flush when spawning to coir, you can rest assured that "bad air"(miasma? LOL) wasn't the cause for it. Contams that early in the game are almost always due to dirty spawn. You can take a dump in your bulk and it will not contam, given that your spawn was clean.

Thanks for the response. Trying to post pics of my two tubs, having noob issues. Figures. I guess I'll just pray that they dont rot(maybe I'm over analyzing ) so far I've only had a couple contams prior that were completely my fault for not being set up how I wanted to be. Currently running a greenhouse setup with tubs inside the greenhouse with no lids+ fan for air exchange. So far so good, next time I'll be prepared for this step.

Bad air-- when I was setting up my tubs right before putting in my coir/verm/wbs , I didn't want to have it open and risk letting in any junk while fiddling with the liner. Afraid of letting in any unwanted garbage floating around.

People actually gave "bad air" a name back when they didn't know better. After they did finally know better, they realised that "bad air" doesn't exist.

If contaminants floating around in the air was of any detriment, we would not be fruiting in open air, but would do so in sterile environments. Fact of the matter is, clean spawn is all that is needed, if you have that you can skip taking a shower for a whole week and spawn a tub with your bare hands and fruit it without a lid and you will still get shrooms. Fruiting is not a sterile procedure, and it will never have the need to be because the contams in the air are harmless when you have clean spawn.

to harvest side pins i pick the top clean lay bubble wrap down across the sub and take an empty tote and place it inside and gently flip...plenty of ways to get the little fuckers though

I only used the term just from the idea that a single spec of dirty dust or dandruff might ruin me. Newbie irrational fears maybe.. black liner just because its the common liner recommended from what I've seen and putting together that black blocks out the light/will stop from pinning on the sides. It loojs like I've misunderstood a few things along the way.

Fresh air is your best trigger for pinning.  Any liner that hugs your sub reasonabaly close should keep the air out that triggers the side pins.

Open air is great


Fae is way more important than humidity. The substrate provides the moisture and creates its own humidity as it evaporates
