I need a book that is relativly easy reading and from the perspective of the left. Political books tend to bore me because they seem to just tow the party line yadda yadda yadda.....i want a different perspective.

"From Freedom to Slavery" by Gerry Spence
Gerry Spence is a liberal defense attorney who defended Randy Weaver from the Ruby Ridge charges. He brought up some ideas which prompted me to change my opinions on certain things. It is also a good book to recommend to your leftist friends which might prompt them to re-evaluate some of their opinions, whereas a writer from a different perspective (more 'right wing') might turn them off and piss them off.
-------------------- To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.' Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence. Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains. Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

I can help you there.

I recommend Al Franken's latest book, "Lies, and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them." The problem with this one, though, is that he doesn't attack issues so much as he tries to discredit prominent people on the right. He tears Anne Coulter a new one, as he does for Bill O'Reilley, Sean Hannity, George W. Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, and many other politicians and pundits. Not all that informative if you're looking for liberal positions on issues(though there is plenty of that in the book). Funny read, though.

Don't know if this is what your looking for but Animal Farm by George Orwell is a good book.
