Not necessarily.
I have experienced shroom trips that make DMT look like "go-carts"

ive pushed mushrooms to the limit, hell id do 6g lemon tekked with 4grams syrian rue for maoi and that still didnt have shit all on even 100mg pure dmt orally with 4g syrian rue.

DMT has the most horsepower by FAR. definitely the most luxurious psychedelic.

I would recommend an eighth of dried cubensis.
This is what I chose and my life has been beautiful since.

2 schools of thought on this subject. One is take enough to be fully immersed in the experience and have no room in your head left for any regrets. The other is creep up incrementally beginning with low doses.
I did a combination of the two albeit intuitively because nobody instructed me. I took half a hit of LSD on two occasions and on the third time I took two full hits. It worked perfect. I was fully immersed, never freaked out except for about half an hour I got caught up looking at myself in the mirror. Nobody warned me about that either!

From my personal experience, I could take super high doses as a teenager and fly free with zero anxiety. Now that I'm older, I am a lot more sensitive to them as I think our minds become more grounded in sober reality that tripping becomes more intense and mindfucky as we age considering the amount of time and experience that comes along with aging. I'll think about a Fuck ton more while tripping these days, which can be great, but also just downright more intense.

This is just my experience though and perhaps I'll work my way back up. I was also in a different place in my life back then. So yeah, perhaps my experience isn't completely reliable, but i know for damn sure I'm a lot more sensitive to them.

For example, I could take 6 grams at a festival and walk around freely. Now, I can take 0.5-2g and basically be paralyzed  with my mindfold on in solitude and mostly silence, except maybe some nature sounds. But i usually redose with another 2-4 grams after I break the ice so to speak. I'll admit my anxiety has grown as I've aged and I'm still working on that.

I think that the older we get, the more memories we have and ideas that we have to face while tripping. But I'm still in the middle of testing this theory vs just my anxiety getting in the way. But to be honest, I'm not anxious normally. Just seems to happen more often these days while I'm tripping vs when I was younger and tripped for recreation. These days it's more of intense therapy where I have to face more fears as an adult. Just my 2 cents. But this is just me. Everyone is different.

It's amazing at the doses I used to could do/places I could be while tripping in my youth.
These days 2 grams will make me trip face, and I sure as hell cant go out in public.

@Heisencybin - While I can definitely see your point in regards to the fact that as we get older, we have more things weighing on our minds and these inevitably affect our trips - the job, the house payments, raising a family, having a relationship, good decisions, poor decisions, regrets, and looming death - yeah, those things can definitely affect my trips now more than when I was a kid, when I was more carefree and reckless. 

That said, not all teenagers are insulated from heavy emotions or hard life decisions.  Certainly, there isn't much physical advantages to being young in regards to taking a psychedelic.

My point is that the persons life experiences, whether young or old, will affect that persons psychedelic experience.  I have many friends, in their 40's, that partake of psychoactive substances all the time and seem to be enjoying themselves immensely, even on heavier doses. 

I would not recommend additional caution to an older person compared to a young person.  I simply recommend caution. 

Truth be told, if somebody in my age bracket (40's) wanted to trip for the first time and wanted to have a full-blown experience, I would give them the 3 grams.  As the late Hunter S Thompson so eloquently stated, "Buy the ticket, take the ride."

Well said. I can agree with that, but i guess I'm a bit of the opposite and would recommend low doses old or young. 1 gram or 1 hit for a first timer because you're right, it depends mostly on the individual, not necessarily the age/experience. And anyone can have a bad experience old or young. Obviously lower doses would be less detrimental if they did have a bad time. What I'm more curious in is the differences in how a young vs older person can handle and grow past the bad experience aka ptsd. I truly don't know which would be able to cope better. In that aspect, I suppose perhaps an older person could cope better and not be left with lasting anxiety, etc since they have been through worse times already while a younger person still hasn't developed strong coping mechanisms. But on the flip side, as I stated previously, an older person is more grounded in this sober reality that they could be shaked up a bit more easily/sensitive during their first trip, while a younger person may be a bit more open minded naturally and ungrounded in beliefs/thoughts/etc.

Bottom line, it mostly depends on the individual IMO. I had an amazing first time on an 8th when I just turned 17, but many others may have been wrecked and dealt with permanent anxiety since they're brains are still growing. And besides the point, I think i will get back up to higher doses as I get older too and become more grounded/open minded again as I was when I was younger with the psychedelic experiences. But in the state I'm currently in my life this past year especially, I'm not quite there yet. I just turned 25 fyi so life has just been kinda hectic the past few years as I'm sure many others are at this age. I also took a long break from age 19 to 23/24 ish so perhaps re entering the tripping world was a bit of a shock. My first trip back I took a whole 8th thinking it'd be the same as when I was younger... holy shit was I wrong.... I thought I was going to die and it was also a much more spiritual eperience vs recreationally when I was younger. I confronted death like I never have before and also confirmed my iffy belief in a higher power/god/natural intelligence. I had no doubt after that trip. I also thought I was having a conversation with this higher power during that trip. Blew me away like never before.

The question means that your research is not complete yet.
Look for Fadiman's book "Psychedelic explorer guide", this is what you need.

I would recommend mushrooms rather than any blotters-pills-powders because with mushrooms, you know what you get.
Please don't do it alone or at least don't use high doses. 3g is maximum for a few first times, I'd say. Psychedelics are really powerful substances, remember that.

I hear aldous huxley's "doors of perception" captures the psychedelic experience quite well. He's a mastermind with words and correlating them with experience. I have yet to read that one though.

You have intrigued me with this perspective, my good sir. I came to psychedelics later in life, around my mid 20s. A decade later, and I have noticed I am somewhat more anxious, less relaxed, more mentally intense, both at the prospect of tripping, during the come up and peaking.

I'd kinda dismissed it as 'one of those things', but this post of yours has given me serious pause for thought. I've always been a very laid back person, easygoing and pretty chill, and I still am. Nevertheless, in the last decade I have suddenly switched on and worked damned fucking hard for my qualifications, started on an actual career, got married, house, all that jazz; I'm certainly much 'older' than I was, and certainly a lot less free tripping than I used to be. I've assumed this was uncorrolated, and just due to the nature of the trips I've had.

But now, you've given me pause for thought.  :thatsinteresting:
