But alcohol is proven to be harmful to full grown adults.


The benefits from wine can be obtained from grape juice.


Lets assume the harms are over stated, why risk it?

IN EXCESS, yes. Which is exactly my point. The same applies to pregnant women--only harmful when consumed in excess.

I've read many studies stating that a glass of beer or wine during a meal or after a workout is healthy, lowers cardiac problems, etc.

When I was in Paris this August, I was sitting at a cafe and next to me were two pregnant women who were smoking cigarettes and drinking wine. :shrug:

Right but you have to consider how babies metabolize things.


You claimed a glass of red wine would be ok for a baby and i cant help but feel thatd be a harmful amount.

I also think babies dont need to worry about reducing their chance of heart attack and see no plus side to giving them alcohol.

Many studies?  You should post them, or at least some.  Are you claiming its good for the fetus or the mom?

You do realize that the alcohol gets metabolized through the mother's liver first, and then diluted in the mother's bloodstream before reaching the fetus, right?

If it went straight from mouth to fetus, then that would be incredible. It would mean that that person's blood is so concentrated, that you could inject their blood and be able to get completely high off it. But the reality is, it's nowhere near that concentrated once it's in the bloodstream.

The thing is, you have to understand that USA doctors will never, ever admit or publicly state that drinking ANY amount is acceptable during pregnancy, due to liability purposes. Because the USA is such a lawsuit-happy country, no doctor wants to risk losing their license and will always set the absolute strictest restrictions on what to eat and drink, to avoid trouble in the future.

Here's another example of pregnancy rules that vary from country to country--in America, they say don't eat sushi or raw foods. Yet it is considered perfectly healthy for pregnant women to eat carpaccio (raw beef) in France, and Japanese women eat sushi while pregnant all the time. In America, they say don't take baths over 100 degrees fahrenheit or some shit (so basically anything above lukewarm). Yet in all of Northern Asia, you see pregnant women taking super hot baths in the saunas all the time.

Apparently there are some studies out there that have proven that cocaine is actually "healthier" (and by healthier I mean less damaging) to a fetus than smoking cigarettes.

It'd be interesting to see if things change if it were an electronic cigarette, or if the cigarette didn't contain any chemicals in it except nicotine and tobacco (like American Spirits).
