Twin Freaks

so i started out with an FAE problem which i addressed by adding more holes. as a result the cakes have grown some aerial myc which after adding the holes turned into these blobs. so ignore that.

i'm guessing the brown spots and striations are co2 related but the conjoined twin situation must be genetic right?

it's in one. it just initially didn't have enough holes cuz i forgot that the holes i was making were smaller then the ones in the tek.
so i added more and it should now be to spec. and i did notice i'm not getting the aerial myc any more so i think it's working properly now.

it does essentially the same job and a TC advised me that it would be fine.
meanwhile i never seen freaks like these before, in any FC.

Really because they look similar to a vert infection... Split stipes and deformities can be tons of things, but that's higher up on the list.

Could that be low humidity from the hydroton? looks like splitting and whatnot to me.

It's not too dry, the humidity outside the tub is 65%. and i have been misting regularly.
i harvested 38 grams wet and the cake seems in good shape. No sign of contams or blueing before picking and a strong blueing on the fruits after picking. Fruits seem to have the proper density. Dwformities include inverted caps, merged caps and split stems.
I should mention that i think my lighting was insufficient, now fixed.

What strain is it?
I have a hunch certain strains are more prone to mutant fruits from multispore....

Hydroton is fine to use in a SGFC. In fact given that most people get fine perlite not coarse, hydroton in many instances perform better.
I don't see any white molds, possibly some psuedomonias, maybe cut back the misting a touch. The split stipe is probably from a humidity fluctuation, most likely happened when you added the holes and got it up to par. I would suggest that the excess mutants and blobs are probably due to the bare minimum consolidation of one week that is so popular with impatient new growers. 2 weeks would be far better.

The 3rd cake does seem to be doung much better, and the first cake only had minor deformations. And it is also correct that i took 1 week for conslidation.

well i'm definitely seeing better growth, but i still have some fuzz on the stem there and you can see the cakes behind it still have some aerial myc. those also seem to be pinning mostly on the side facing the holes.

this is the one behind that ^^ one, amazonian placed in the FC after fixing the FAE.

Dude you are way overmisting those. Do not mist until the water from the previous mist is gone. Those caps are soaked.

that pic was taken just after misting. i do make sure they look dry before i mist again and i try to mist every 6 hours, 3 times a day.
should mist lighter when i do?
a;so i think i still might not be 100% to spec with this fc. the tek calles for 1/4" holes every 2 inches. since i can make 1/8" holes i did it every inch or so.
but 1/8" is not half of 1/4" in terms of surface area is it?
should i add more holes? if so how many?

Why don't you just make one to spec with perilite already? Is it not available where you live?
