Are humans naturally sociopaths?

It would make a lot of sense from what I've seen. Basically everyone is a sociopath but is conditioned from birth by society not to be and that gets deeply ingrained in a lot of people while failing to work on the other people we deem as sociopaths.

hmm, I don't think so.

I thought a sociopath was not capable of empathy, that was like one of the defining things of being a sociopath, I know plenty of folks who are capable to showing empathy to their fellow man and don't always put their needs first.

anyone devoid of outside influence will essentially be a sociopath, because they have no concept of morality, empthy or society

Actually, I am far from a sociopath. I interact and deal with them on a daily basis so I may be projecting this idea on them as I am looking for an explanation as to the sheer number of people that exhibit this behavior. It seems like many more people exhibit sociopathic behavior than a dna glitch would explain.

Thanks for incorrectly psychoanalyzing me, though.

sociopaths are the people that influence/conditioning doesn't work on

what is it you do that makes you have to deal with sociopaths on a daily basis? do you work on Wall St or something?

yes, absolutely. we only develop our sense of self and other through social indoctrination.

look at the vikings. look at every civilization that practiced slavery. they were living with a belief that said that certain humans are not of equal value as themselves and therefore treated others as such.

beliefs are built on arbitrary conceptions of morality and without an appropriate "belief structure", humans will behave in ways that benefit only themselves.

do we need religion to keep people from being sociopaths? only if they have nothing else to believe in..

why bother doing something for the good of someone else?
only if it makes us feel good in some way

why would it make us feel good in some way?
because we believe for some reason that it should..

this is an example of a "moral belief structure"

it can be based on anything. religion... the reasoning that we all come from starstuff.. the fact that we all have the same genetic heritage and ancestry, some spiritual nonsense... anything. but it has to be based on something.

otherwise, we are just living for the organism we are supporting by default (ourself)

Maybe. Possibly. I do see a lot of the "use your words" kind of talk on these boards as soft. Some people are so disrespectful they won't listen until things get physical then they cry about it with the "why did this happen to me". If I got bit by a snake you'd probably ask why what did I do. Was I fucking with it?

If you know someone who was harmed, and you try to take matters into your own hands to correct things, that is not karma but vengeance and you will only cause negativity to come back to you threefold.

I put karma in quotations for a reason. Personally I don't know if I believe in it. There are shitty people who never have a bad thing happen to them. There are good people who do right but never have right done by them... Idk about karma man.

Say you have a sister and someone rapes her.

Do you not want to get a hold of him and make him feel more pain than he knew was possible?

Yeah, I can understand why you wouldn't believe in karma, but I for one kinda do. 



I was a drug addict for so long, was around a lot of fucked up situations, and have felt like since about 2009 I have been experiencing karmic lessons in my life.  It's funny because the lessons are sometimes harsh, but never to harsh that I can't handle them, like whatever is up there (god?) knows in my heart I was a good person who got caught up, and knows the grief I experienced from being around dope so long and doing some questionable things.  Every time a lesson would be taught to me by life, I knew it, I would tell myself how much I fucked up in the past, and that I made my bed so now I better not bitch about having to lay in it type thing, which allowed me to work through some negative things in my being.  It was like karma knew that I had invested a great deal into being kind to others for years before getting stung out, that I was slowly brought back to a point where I was able to leave childish thinking behind and keep moving forward, does that make sense?

I just don't want to sound like one of those folks thats like "I got caught up" when it was my fucking choice to continue to be a dumb ass, hope I made that clear.

I know I have learned my lesson with wrongs I have done, and I have seen those harsh lessons fade away to find myself reaching a point where I am actually happy with all I have.  I don't have much, but am happy about who I am, and having humbled myself to learn from my mistakes, and have grown up a lot since getting clean.

just my experience with karma.


In regards to someone raping someone, that is rough, if someone ever did something like that to a loved one I would be upset and might react in a way I would later regret.

I too can relate with addiction, and is partially one of the reasons I don't believe in karma. Seen and been in fucked up situations man. Kinda hard not to see the world as some randomized series of events that you have to try and control to make it in one piece.

And this is what interests me about the subject too because you seem like a rather peaceful chill dude. You'd act without thinking. Instinct. It's a natural reaction. Vengeful bloodlust. It's crazy to see animalistic tendencies in people because we like to think of ourselves as so "evolved". Yeah we are smart. But we still carry all those hormones and triggers our ancestors did.
