War on Drugs. War on Humanity.
    #3038128 - 08/22/04 11:10 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

Hello All,

First, let me express my immense amount of gratitude for this place, THE SHROOMERY, and all who post here. Much love for you all. I'm glad to know this place and hope to post more in the future among such great minds. We should never forget how much of an impact this place has upon many minds the world over. Post on.

"In a world turned upside-down, the honest man must become a thief."

I'm not sure who said the above quote, and I'm pretty sure I've misquoted a bit, but I thought the notion expressed, accurately describes us Shroomites. We've come to understand that we are regulated/oppressed by men whose rules are antithetical to our purposes (freedom to do what we like with our minds/lives) and we've had to adapt accordingly. We have had to become in their eyes, criminals.

Daily, I struggle with the idea that strange men, armed to the teeth, could break through the door of my nice little house, launch tear gas into my family's bedroom, and KILL any member of my family during the confusion, which they happen to "perceive as a threat to their own personal safety." They could do this to me and my kin if they SUSPECTED that I was cultivating any number of psychoactives and a single man (a judge) signed off on it. I have read of many circumstances where individuals, such as myself, heard explosions in their living rooms, grabbed their gun, and went out to PROTECT THE ONES THEY LOVE MOST IN THE WORLD only to be pumped full of lead by some gov't issued rifle. Murdered. Sure sounds like justice to me. My tax dollars well spent. The men who shot him down and made his wife a widow are perfectly justified under our current system of "law." They simply have to explain to their superiors that "the target" approached with a firearm-aimed and ready-and that they had to shoot to defend themselves. Defend themselves! Heroes.

So many questions swathe around in my head amongst the anger.

How has the world come to this point? Why is this? Who does the current WAR ON DRUGS benefit? Is it a conscious conspiracy? An unconscious one? Are "they" afraid that with psychoactives we will realize that we don't need to be plugged into the system 24/7; that we don't need their "leadership?" That they can't keep us in line with fear tactics? Are they afraid that when we learn to stimulate our own minds by our own means, we will stop spending billions of our dollars a year on their mindless escapist entertainment and propaganda? Does it boil down to nothing more than making sure that the sheep who don't "baaaahhhh" the loudest are kept in line? Do crimes related to illegal drugs really outnumber those related to alcohol? IS THIS WAR JUSTIFIED?

I am not as eager to jump to conspiracy theories as others in our culture are. As much as I want to believe in the battle of the "free-thinkers" VS. "the man", it just doesn't seem logical to me. Wouldn't "the man" want to capitalize off of psychoactives? Isn't that what he's about? Stuffing his pockets? So why does he spend billions of dollars a year to take this potential product from potential customers? Not good business.

I personally don't understand the source of the aversion this nation (america) has to recreational "drug" use. Driving my fossil fuel guzzling SUV (which pollutes the fuck out of our one and only planet earth) to Mcdonald's, downing twelve Big Mac's (which pollutes the fuck out of my one and only human body), and watching TV for eight hours (which pollutes the fuck out of my one and only human mind) is acceptable behavior, but journeying out into the forest with some friends, eating a few psychoactive mushrooms, and talking about what could be; that's an arrest-able offense. We will throw you in prison and take you away from the ones you love. Why? Because I was hurting someone? Because I was stealing someone's hard-earned property? Oh, I see. It's because I'm a young male who doesn't spend all of his all time grabbing hand-over-fist for gorditas and DVDs. It's because I AM USING MY MIND FOR MY OWN PURPOSES AND NOT YOURS! If I had been shopping in the mall, I wouldn't be in this predicament.

I don't know the answers to these questions and excuse the passion contained in this post. To me, this world seems like an upside down one, and it upsets me that most of my peers would look at me as a criminal if they knew of my pursuits. Isn't it a natural right of human beings to be able to gauge what is "good" and what is "bad" from their peers and loved ones? Is it natural to have to hide the most joyful experiences of your life from your parents and family? What kind of brainwashing has been implemented upon our society to make a mother turn over her one and only baby boy to the police for a simple drug offense. To make "drug" users hide their passion from their loved ones and hang their head in shame?

Our current society is the enemy my friends. It destroys the bonds between family members and makes all citizens loyal to the "law" above all else. ABOVE BLOOD! The legal system creates crimes out of harmless experiences so that it seems vital. The masses of america see a local police troop set up a month-long sting (with their own tax dollars) to catch a bunch of drug dealers and everyone sleeps happier at night:

"God damn drug dealers are off the street and god's green earth is a little bit purer. Now hand me that Xanax and a Viagra honey. Let's get down to business."

I know I've rambled and ranted and been inconsistent in this post, but I just don't get it and I'm frustrated. I hope you've been able to extract some meaning from this. And I would love to hear anyone's opinions/answers to my questions. It's late at night, and I have to load my shotgun.

IF YOU AREN'T OUTRAGED, YOU AREN'T PAYING ATTENTION!

Thank You.

These are all questions most of ask ourselves every day. It's a screwed up world, to be sure and the irony of it is, it doesn't have to be this way. Keep your passion alive and burning and perhaps some lovely day we CAN change the world for the better. We can only hope and dream.
Much peace and love...

Well said, and I completely agree. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. Don't lose heart...many, many people are waking up!

We will prevail!

I really think that the Shroomery and other websites like Erowid are informing people on these things in such a way that it could be the start of big change. It's already happening of course, and if it wasn't for places like this I'd probably still be extremely anti-drug and completely misinformed.

And yes, what you said are the same questions we ask ourselves almost every single day. It's so strange how the world's insanity can convince you that you're the one who's insane for thinking rationally. Welcome to the Shroomery. Defintely don't get discouraged cause you can go really far with that type of thought.

I totally agree with you, the world is a fucked up place. It's whatever is good for the government, money money money. Alcohol with evident negative effects vs. let's say marijuana, is legal and weed is not. Nobody, I really believe no one is stupid enough to think alcohol is safer than weed. I mean you drink, you drive, you kill someone. You drink, get wasted, fight someone, beat someone half to death and remember not one second of it. Not many out there can make their own beer so there's money to be made off of it, legalize it! As we all know, people like to smoke, watch a good movie, play some good video games and laugh with friends and NOT fight, ban it! People can grow their own? We can't make money off of it? Ban it! It's just my opinion, but I feel like that is one of the reasons it's not legal. To fucking top it off, the government can MAKE you go in the military at 18 years old and die for your country, but you still ain't allowed to buy a beer. Fuck the system, one day I want to get my own piece of land out in the country and be away from it all, or at least as much as possible.
