Salvia help..
    #2233414 - 01/10/04 05:09 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Seems the edges around the tips of the leaves have been going dry and brown.. Now, I don't have a humidity tent, and I usually mist the plant every chance I get, about several times a day.. Is the drying/browning of the leaves humidity/moisture related, or something else maybe? Also, one of the leaves has a brown spot, right in the middle, but the rest is fine.

New leaves start fine, but by the time the new set of leaves has come up, the ones before it are browing on the edges. None of the leaves have died completely..

Any advice, suggestions.. comments?

your salvia is on a too dry envoirment, despite your mists you cannot raise the RH all the time by that.
if the brown spots are soft, you're drowning her.
bring her to a shadier spot, let her lose some leaves.
my bad located outdoor ones live almost as mere stems during the summertime... like a salvia-cactus LOL.
take care not to overwater her or overmist, this is the most common mistake...
and if you have a plastic bag + a little brainstorming = humidity tent.
good growing!

Thanks

I'm quite sure over-watering is not the problem - the spots are dry and can crumble if you try.

I thought losing leaves would be a bad thing..
Might have to work up a humidity tent sometime, She'd probably appreciate it

FAQ:

My Salvia is getting black edges, what's wrong?

That is rather normal; if your humidity is staying within optimal range and the brown/black edges start consuming the entire leaf then there is nothing to worry about. Simply remove the black edges by trimming the leaf back a little.

Consistent high humidity prevents black edges.
