For my first post I thought you would like to see one of my larger plants. It was grown indoors over winter in a humidity tent. Enjoy

Just wanted to insert a comment about salvia growing....(after seeing wet leaves all the time!) High humidity is not necessary at all for these plants. When you first get a cutting, it is usually grown in a greenhouse in high humidity, but with time you can get it accustomed to VERY low humidity (10% is fine). After you get a new plant, keep it in high humidity until it begins to grow again. Let it grow to 2 or maybe 3 times its origional size and then SLOWLY lower humidity levels. You will know if you are going too fast if your plant looks very wilty. What I have observed is that the origional leaves (high humidity) never seem to get used to low humidity, but new growth is far more tolerant. Eventually, the plant will have all new growth and it can be completely removed from the humidity chamber. Another interesting point: The new low humidity leaves have a different look to them. They are thicker and a bit leathery. When dried, they weigh over 2X as much as the same sized high humidity leaf. Salvinorin concentration also is higher, but I don't have any quantitative measurements yet. Please copy and post this to others who may be interested! Jason

Yes, you can grow at lower humidity, as I have, but when I placed the same plant in a humidity tent it grew allot faster. The plant that was grown out of a humidity tent was from a low humidity source, and did not need to be acclimatised. The leafs of the plant I grow, out of the humidity tent, have black edges. I think this is due to fluctuations in humidity rather than just low humidity. It could be hypothesized that if the plant is not kept at a constant humidity, some of the leafs will form as high humidity while others low humidity. As a result some leafs will suffer when the conditions are not suited. A further point to consider in regard to your post, is that the leafs are not normally that wet, even under high humidity. They where sprayed prior to the photos being taken to prevent the plants wilting out side the humidity tent. Please respond I am very interested in your thoughts on this issue. Thanks Salvia England

I think my plants grow very fast with no added humidity. I can pick about 10-15 large (3X6 inch) leaves every 2 weeks from a 18" tall plant in a 10" pot. This seems very good to me. Jason
