I thought he might go out as a martyr like his sons did but he was a coward and let the americans forces take him alive. That has to look bad on himself towards the Ba'athist resistant.

Agree. His capture is mostly irrelevant, it's a red herring.

At best it might weaken the resistance the coalition is meeting in Iraq.

DNA tests are quick. They don't take very long. Most of the time when you hear about them taking weeks it isn't because the test takes a long time, but it is because the crime labs are all backed up.

The attacks will not stop, you can bet on that.

Anyway, this is good news. He needs to be tried as a war criminal now.

The Iraq Governing Council is claiming he will be tried in Iraq by Iraqis.

What are his odds of making it to trial without being assassinated? They'll have to put him in a bulletproof cage during trial, and I for one wouldn't want to be working in that courthouse -- Iraqis are too fond of truck bombs for my taste.

..the fact that saddam was captured in a cellar..in such shit shape..indicates that he could not have been commanding the guerilla war...

Would you agree that this probably won't stop many attacks in the long run?

I agree. But I agree because that is human nature. Otherwise the "War to End all Wars" would have stopped war.

If a man breaks into my house because I have valuables and he, enviously, wants them, when he attacks I blow his shit away with my Desert Eagle. There might be another attack from another man.

But that won't stop me from killing a person intent on robbing me.

This is especially true if he intends on harming me or my loved ones.

I meant specifically the attacks from insurrgents. They believe that many aren't even Sadam loyalists.

Yea! Castro and his guerillas lived in mansions when they were fighting the Batistas! And Osama? He did too! White supremacist guerillas / terrorist wanna-bees? Why, they attend all the hollywood socialite parties! Oh.. no... wait... thats not it at all.

Can you show some sort of precdent of what a guerilla leader should do, and how having excess facial hair and doing a good job of hiding makes it impossible for him to be one? I doubt it.

Fair trial, summary execution.

I think that Saddam should be turned over to Comedy Central. Future episodes of southpark will have Saddam doing his real voice. He will appear as a guest host on the man show where he will be covered in feces and forced to read his statements of how the Americans will be pushed back (his pre-war statments) while people laugh at and harangue him. Then, of course, he should be drawn and quartered.

Now that he's caught, Saddam needs to be handed over to the Iraqis, not the Americans.
