Well as the season is nearly over (Well i thought it was) as it has been abit frosty here and there this week..I was on my way back from college and its been foggy all morning so i decided to have 1 last scour across my field to check for some mushrooms..
I certainly did get enuff for 1 last big messy weekend on the luvly liberty caps. I picked a total of 75 in an hour, i found alot of dead ones. And you certainly can tell they are starting to dissapear for the winter...
I also found a few mushrooms which were very rare on this field. there was about 8 of them, 2 growing directly out of cow poo and the rest around... The stem was about 2mm, dark brownish colour. stem was about 4 cm in length..the cap was very smooth and it was a dark blackish/brownish colour, bottom of cap folded under sort of like a lib but the edge of the folded cap had a white ring
And that concludes my hunt

that bigg'un in the second pic is sure purdy . those in the third pic you say came from dung look odd, and may not be P. semilanceata, though i see what looks to be bluing, and i'm not sure waht else they could be in your area.
good finds.

The ones with the white ring are probably Panaeolus sphinctrinus.

ok, then i'm mistaken about the bluing. Panaeolus sounds right.

kaal-kopje,
Panaeolus sphinctrinus has a black ring, not a white ring. It also has fringed teeth like edges to the bottom edge of the cap which are whitish but the ring is black from the black spore prints of the genera Panaolus.

MJ, not only are the marginal viel remnants not always white, they are often white to gray when i find them, unless the specimen is near full maturity and has so peaked in sporulation. niether of these specimens are that old. i do not know what they are, and the picture is poor, but your statement is a bit broad. with much respect, concrete.
