Is it possible to graft San Pedro onto blue myrtle?

Hi. I would like to know if it would be possible to graft San Pedro seedlings onto Blue Myrtles (Myrtillocactus Geometrizans), so that one doesn't have to wait several years for the Pedros to mature. That is, one would start the Pedros from seed (let's say that cuttings aren't an option), and then graft them onto grown blue myrtles when they are large enough.

I'm assuming that it would be feasible because Myrtles can support the weight of San Pedros until they are both about the same size (right?). Also, Myrtles grow fast from what I heard, and they are both cacti (Pedro and Myrtles).

If this is feasible, then how many months old would the baby San Pedros have to be (or, how tall/wide) before being able to graft them onto Myrtles?

Please don't reply by saying to buy Pedro cuttings. I am curious to know if it's feasible to grow them from seed for a few months, and then speed up the growth considerably by grafting them onto blue myrtles.

you can graft a pedro to a myrtillocactus but it is tipically undone because pedros and trichs (and columnar cacti in general) are already quick growers, and their growth rate wouldn't be multiplied by 2 because it's grafted on a myrtillo.

This might be true with established plants, Felix, but from what I have been reading, it takes several years for a Pedro seedling to become a foot tall. Growth after this is quite fast, like 18 inches per year. Growth is rather slow at the beginning (i.e. when starting from seed), so I am wondering if initial growth could be quickened by grafting tiny Pedro babies onto Myrtles, until they are large enough to grow fast on their own.

oh i guess so then!
there are also other rootstocks you can use such as pereskiopsis or epiphyllium, they're better for scions than the usual rootstocks i guess...
(non attachment grafting, areole grafting)....
search for una's post on pereskiopsis grafts!

not to mention taht an established pedro would provide a good grafting stock aswell...

I don't think that they could support the weight of Pedros as well as blue myrtle, though, Felix.  :cool:
